Biography

In his 1905 Southworth Genealogy,[1] Samuel Webber claimed Edward Southworth was likely the son of Thomas Southworth of Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, who married Rosamond Lister. This ancestry has been disproven by Sue Allan in her 2019 book: In Search of Separatist Edward Southworth of Leiden, New England Historic Genealogical Society

Previous Y-DNA testing

According to the Southworth-Southard surname DNA Project Subgroup SF02 (Southworths from Samlesbury) includes not only Y-DNA descendants of Constant Southworth, but other Southworth, Sudduth, Southard and even a Davis family. Everyone in this grouping are close STR marker matches so it is possible they share a common patrilineal ancestry in England.

NGS/WGS testing

While none of the claimed descendants of Constant Southworth have ordered a Big Y test, several members of this Project subgroup have Big Y tested and been found to fall under various subclades of R-P312>>L21>DF13>Z39589>S1051>S1050>FGC17980>FGC17990>S1057>FGC17983>FGC46958>FT260574

Further needed testing

We need patrilineal (all male-line) descendants of the Southworth family to WGS/NGS test to confirm their placement and refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
