Paper Trail

Elizabeth is said to have been baptized at Baldock, Hertfordshire, England in Sep 1583[1] the daughter of Augustine Walker.[2] Elizabeth married Richard Warren at Great Amwell, Hertfordshire on 14 Apr 1610.[3] Their children were not baptized at Great Amwell (in fact, no baptismal records can be found for any of them) so it is possible the couple joined the Separatists faith and worshipped in secret with some currently unknown congregation.[4] Richard emigrated alone in 1620, and Elizabeth (with her daughters) emigrated in 1623 aboard the Anne. They remained at Plymouth, where Richard died in 1628. While Elizabeth survived her husband by almost fifty years, she never remarried and managed her estate independently.[5] She died at Plymouth on 12 Oct 1673[6] and was buried at Burial Hill.[7]

Richard and Elizabeth had seven children; two sons (both born in New Plimouth) and daughters Mary, Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth & Abigail (all born in England)[8]

Second Generation

Mary Warren[9] was born about 1611[10] She married at Plymouth about 1630 to Robert Bartlett.[11] They continued to live in Plymouth where Mary died 27 Mar 1683. They had eight children; two sons and six daughters (Rebecca, Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Lydia and Mercy [1650/1- , m. John Joy but only had one son]).

Ann Warren[12] was born about 1612[13] She married at Plymouth 19 Apr 1633 to Thomas Little. The family moved to Marshfield where Ann died sometime after 19 Feb 1675/6. Thomas & Ann had nine children; 4 sons and five daughters (Abigail [c1635-b1660, m. Josiah Keene, only daughter died in infancy], Patience, Ruth [apparently never married], Hannah, and Mercy).[14]

Sarah Warren was born before 19 Apr 1613[15] She married at Plymouth 28 Mar 1634 to John Cooke.[16] John and Sarah continued to live in Plymouth until about 1665, when they moved to Dartmouth. Sarah died 25 Jul 1696. John & Sarah had five daughters; Sarah, Elizabeth, Esther, Mary and Mercy.

Elizabeth Warren[17] was born about 1616. She married Richard Church before 7 Mar 1636/7. They moved from Plymouth to Nauset (now Eastham) in 1649, then to Charlestown by 1652 but finally settled in Hingham in 1654. Elizabeth died at Hingham 9 Mar 1669/70. Richard & Elizabeth had ten children; five sons and five daughters (Elizabeth [c1636-1658/9, m. Caleb Hobart but only had 1 son], Abigail, Sarah, Mary [d. young] & Deborah [b 1657-1690, supp. m. Sylvanus White but only had one son]).

Abigail Warren was born about 1619. She married at Plymouth 8 Nov 1639 to Anthony Snow. The couple moved to Marshfield shortly after their marriage, where they raised their family. Abigail died at Marshfield 12 Nov 1692. They had six children; two sons (one died in infancy) and four daughters (Lydia, Abigail, Sarah & Alice).

Third Generation

Rebecca Bartlett was born Plymouth about 1631 and died there about 1658. She married there 20 Dec 1649 (Sgt.) William Harlow and they had four children (all born Plymouth): William (Oct 1650-Oct 1650), Samuel (1652/3), Rebecca (12 Jun 1655 m. Isaac Cushman) and William.

Mary Bartlett was born Plymouth about 1633 and died 1692. She married twice, first Plymouth Sep 1651 Richard Foster (only one son, Benjamin who disappears from all records after his mother's second marriage) and second Plymouth 1659 (Lt.) Jonathan Morey. By her second husband Mary had three children: Jonathan, John and Hannah.

Sarah Bartlett was born Plymouth about 1636 and died before 1680. She married there 23 Dec 1656 Samuel Rider (II) and had three children: Samuel (1657), Mercy and John (abt 1664).

Elizabeth Bartlett was born Plymouth about 1641 and died Hingham 17 Feb 1712/3. She married Hingham 26 Dec 1661 Anthony Sprague and they had eleven children: Anthony (1663), Benjamin (1665), John (1667-1690), Elizabeth (1669-1690 never married), Samuel (1671/2), Sarah (1674 m.Caleb Bates), James (1677/8), Josiah (1680), Jeremiah (1682), Richard (1685), and Matthew (1688).

Lydia Bartlett was born Plymouth about 1648 and died there 11 Sep 1691. She married twice, first Plymouth before 14 Jun 1670[18] John Barnaby and second, after 30 Oct 1677[19] John Nelson. By her first husband Lydia had two sons (James and Stephen). She had at least one son (Samuel) by her second husband. [20]


Patience Little was born Marshfield 1639 and died Hingham 25 Oct 1723. She married Weymouth 11 Nov 1657 Joseph Jones and they had ten children: Joseph (1660), Benjamin (1662/3), Patience (1665/6-1688/9 never married), Anna (1667/8 m. Joseph Sturtevant), Ruth (1669 unknown if married), Sarah (1671 m. John Doty & Joseph Peterson), Ephraim (1673), John (c1674), Mary (1676 unknown if married), Thomas (1679).

Hannah Little was born about 1641 and died Scituate 13 May 1710. She married Scituate 16 Jan 1661/2 Stephen Tilden and they had twelve children: Hannah (1662 unknown if married), Stephen (1663/4), Abigail (1666 m. Charles Stockbridge), Mary (1668 m. James Thomas), Judith (1670 m. William Pabodie), Joseph (1672), Mercy (1674 m. Benjamin Stockbridge), Ruth (1676 m. Nathaniel Tilden & Ebenezer Peirce), Isaac (1678), Ephraim (1680), Ebenezer (1682) and David (1685).

Mercy Little was born Plymouth about 1645 and buried Marshfield 10 Feb 1693. She married Marshfield 30 Nov 1666 John Sawyer and they had seven children: (son) (1667), Mercy (1668/9 m. Anthony Eames), Susanna (1671 unknown if married), Thomas (1672 d young), Josias (1675), Mary (1677 unknown if married), Anne (d unmarried 1682).


Sarah Cooke was born about 1635 and died (prob. Dartmouth) after 26 Feb 1712/3. She married Plymouth 20 Nov 1652 Arthur Hathaway and they had seven children: John (1653), Sarah (1655 likely never married), Hannah (c1662 m. George Cadman), Lydia (c1663 m. James Sisson), Mary (c1665 m. Samuel Hammond), Thomas (c1669) and Jonathan (c1672).

Elizabeth Cooke was born Plymouth about 1640 and died Tiverton (now part of RI) 6 Dec 1715. She married Plymouth 28 Dec 1661 Daniel Wilcox and they had eight children:

Esther Cooke was born 1650 and died about 1672. She married Thomas Taber.

Mary Cooke was born 1652 and died about 1712. She married twice, first ____ Davis, and second Phillip Taber.

Mercy Cooke was born 1656 and died 1733. She married Stephen West.


Abigail Church was born 1648 and died 1677. She married Samuel Thaxter.

Sarah Church was born about 1652 and died about 1692. She married James Burroughs/Burrows.


Lydia Snow was born 1639 and died 1711. She married Stephen Skiff.

Abigail Snow was born about 1648 and died before 1682. She married Michael Ford.

Sarah Snow was born 1651 and died 1741. She married Joseph Waterman.

Alice Snow was born 1657 and died about 1702. She married Lt. Robert Barker (III).

mtDNA Results H1j

The FTDNA Mayflower Project documents four mtDNA descendants of Elizabeth (Walker) Warren. All four have been assigned to the H1j haplogroup with the following HVR (Hyper Variable Regions aka Control Regions) mutations (from the RSRS): A16129G, T16187C, C16189T, T16223C, G16230A, T16278C, C16311T and G73A, C146T, C152T, C195T, A247G, 522.1A, 522.2C, 309.1C, 315.1C. According to Haplogroup.org the H1j haplogroup originated roughly 7,500 years ago, so it is a VERY ancient clade. Most H1j individuals would not be mtDNA descendants of Elizabeth, but all mtDNA descendants of Elizabeth must fall under H1j.[1]


Thus mtDNA testing cannot solely be used to conclusively prove someone was a mtDNA descendant of Elizabeth (Walker) Warren, but it can be used to conclusively disprove such a relationship. In addition, mtDNA testing can be used to support a conclusion about a line being descended from Elizabeth, but additional evidence is also needed.
