First Generation

[1] George Soule[1] was born before 1600[2] and died between 20 Sep 1677 - 22 Jan 1679/80.[3] He married Mary Buckett/Beckett at New Plimoth about 1625. They had nine children: Zachariah, John, Nathaniel, George, Susanna, Mary, Elizabeth, Patience and Benjamin.

Second Generation

[2] Zachariah Soule was born before the 1627 Cattle division, He was deceased before his father wrote his will. He possibly married by 1663 Margaret ______.[4] Zachariah is not known to have had any children.[5]

[3] John Soule BY32573[6] was born about 1632.[7] He married twice, first about 1656 to Rebecca Simmons (Simonson) (daughter of Fortune Passenger Moses Simmons/Simonson) and second, by 1679 to Esther (_____)[8] Sampson, widow of Samuel Sampson. By his first wife, he had nine children: Rebecca, James, Sarah, Rachel, Aaron, Benjamin, Zachariah (d. unm.), Moses & John. By his second wife he had three sons: Joseph, Josiah & Joshua

[4] Nathaniel Soule ZW20/A20047[9] was born abt 1640. He fathered a child by an Native American woman bef Mar 1673/4. He married by 1681 to Rose _____.[10] By Rose, he had four sons: Nathaniel, Silvanus, Jacob & Miles.

[5] George Soule (II) A22686[11] was born about 1639 and married by 1681 to Deborah _____. They had eight children: George, William, John (never married), Nathan, Deborah, Mary, Lydia & Sarah.

[6] Benjamin Soule was born about 1652 and died unmarried in King Philip's War on 25 Mar 1676.

Third Generation

James Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 4 Oct 1659 and died Middleborough 27 Aug 1744. He married Duxbury 14 Dec 1693 Lydia Thompson and they had five children: Mary (1694-1704), Martha (1696), Isaac (1698 unm.), Rebecca (1700) and Jacob (1702 m Mary Thomas).

Aaron Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) about 1664 and died prob. Pembroke after 24 Mar 1752. He married bef 1699 Mary Wadsworth and they had four children: Christopher (1699 n.f.r.), Mary (c1701), Aaron (1705 m Alice Peterson, Lydia Peterson & Orphan Waterman) and Rachel (c1707).

Benjamin Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) about 1666 and died Plympton 1 Dec 1729. He married bef 1694 Sarah Standish and they had six children (Plymouth, now Plympton): Zachariah (1694 m Mary Eaton) and they had nine children: Jabez, Zachariah, Mary, Sarah (1727), Ephraim (1729), Hannah, Eunice, James and Lois.

Moses Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) about 1672 and died there 10 May 1748. He married twice, first Duxbury by 1701 Mercy Southworth, then Duxbury 15 Jan 1729/30 Sarah Chandler (no ch.) By his first wife he had nine children: Isaac (c1702 m Agatha Perry), Cornelius (1703 unm?), Barnabas (1705 m Jane Bradbury), Ruth (c1708), Ichabod (c1712 m Grace Turner), Alice (c1715), Gideon (1717 m Mercy/Mary Sylvester), Deborah (c1718) and Jedediah (c1721 m Tabitha Bishop).

John Soule (II) was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) about 1675 and died Middleborough 19 May 1743. He married bef 1702 Martha Tinkham and they had nine children (Middleborough): Martha (1702), Sarah (1703), John (1705 m Mary Leach), Esther (1707), Mary (1709), James (1711 m Deborah Holmes), Rebecca (1713), Nathan (1717-1731/2 unm.) and Rachel (1719).

Joseph Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 31 Jul 1679 and died there 11 Jul 1763. He married by 1711 Mary Peterson and they had five children (Duxbury): Mary (1711), Alethea (1713/4), Lydia (1714/5), Hannah (1716/7) and Rebeckah (1722).

Josiah Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 31 Jul 1679 and died there 25 Jan 1764. He married bef 1705 Lydia Delano and they had six children (Duxbury): Jonathan (1705 unm.), Mary (1706), Abishai (1708 m Abigail Delano, Micah (1711 m Mercy Southworth a matrilineal descendant of Priscilla MULLINS Alden), Nathaniel (1714 m Abigail Tolman) and Lydia (1719).

Joshua Soule was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 12 Oct 1681 and died there 29 May 1767. He married by 1705 Joanna Studley and they had nine children (Duxbury): Zeruiah (1705), John (1708/9 m Mabel Partridge), Ezekiel (1710/1 m Hannah Delano), Joshua (1713 d.y.), Abigail (1716), Joanna (1719), Joseph (1721/2 m Mercy Fullerton), Nathan (1725 m Sarah Southworth) and Sarah (1728).


Nathaniel Soule (II) was born Dartmouth 12 Jan 1681 and died there bef 26 May 1766. He married twice, bef 1709 Meribah Gifford then Dartmouth 13 Feb 1732/3 Hannah Macomber. By his first wife he had four children (Dartmouth): Meribah (1709), Jonathan (1711 m Elizabeth Gifford), Henry (c1721 m Barbara Cottrell) and James (c1723 m Mary Williams, likely no ch.), By his second wife he had: Wesson/Weston (1734/5 m Ruhama Hix, Sarah Wilbor & Philena Manchester).

Silvanus Soule A20044[12] was born Dartmouth about 1684 and died aft 13 Nov 1761. He married abt 1709 Sarah Slead and they had six children (Swansea): Nathaniel (c1709 m Lydia Gifford), William (c1710 m Keziah Gifford), Edward (c1711 unm.), Jonathan (c1713 m Christian Bosworth & Elizabeth Rounds), Sarah (c1718) and Sylvanus (c1720 likely unm.).

Jacob Soule was born Dartmouth about 1687 and died there in early 1748. He married by 1710 Rebecca Gifford and they had eight children (Dartmouth): Joseph (1710/1 m Mary Davis & Dinah Tripp), Elizabeth (1712), Oliver (1714-1715), Rebecca (1715), Nathaniel (1717/8 m Jane Potter), Benjamin (1719 m Meribah Waite), Rosamond (1723) and Stephen (1726/7 m Sarah Potter).

Miles Soule was born Dartmouth abt 1690 and died there bef 6 Jun 1740. It is likely he never married.


George Soule (III) was born Dartmouth bef 25 Mar 1665 and died bef 25 Mar 1697. He married Dartmouth about 1694 Susannah ___ and they had: Mary (1695).

William Soule FGC29004[13] was born Dartmouth bef 1671 and died there bef 25 Apr 1723. He married Dartmouth abt 1691 Hannah Eaton and they had eleven children (Dartmouth): William (1692 m Rachel Allen), Hannah (1694), George (1695 m Lydia Howland[14]), Benjamin (1698 m Mary Holway), Mary (1698/9), Joseph (1701 m ____), Sarah (1703), Alice (1705/6), Samuel (1708 m Patience Mathewson), Jonathan (1710 m Lydia Sisson) and Deborah (1711/2).

Nathan Soule was born Dartmouth about 1677 and died there 10 Sep 1736. He married Dartmouth 2 Jun 1704 Mary Gifford and they had six children (Dartmouth): Content (dau, 1705), John (1707 m Meribah Holway), George (1709 m Avis Tibbetts & Alice Davis), Cornelius (1711/2 m Sarah Dennis), Timothy (1714 m Elizabeth Allen) and Mary (1720).

  10. According to G.T. Ridlon's 1926 "A contribution to the history, biography and genealogy of the families named Sole, Solly, Soule, Sowle, Soulis" II:933 "Wesson Soule. His Book of Accounts 1792. "I was born the 8 day of January in the year of our Lord 1735. My great-grand-father George Soule was one of the 42 that first landed in New England. You may read of him in the New England Memorial. His wife's name was Rosamond Thorn. She died in her 104 year. I remember hi[e]r well. My fathers name was Nathaniel." NOTE: "This sounds like George the immigrants wife, was Rose Thorn, but since we know George was married to a Mary, and son Nathaniel was married to a Rose, we have to assume that Wesson was rambling."

DNA Results I-A20032

Previous Y-DNA testing

Previous Y-STR testing through the Mayflower Society DNA Project and the Soule surname DNA project has indicated that the Mayflower Soule lineage belongs to the Y haplogroup I-M253, which is quite common in Northern and Northwestern Europe.

NGS/WGS Testing

Big Y testing of multiple patrilineal (all male line) descendants of George Soule has been able to refine the haplogroup/clade of the Soule famile to I-DF29>Z58>Z59>Z60>Z140>Z2535>S1954>S12289>A20032.

Patrilineal descendants of George Soule have begun to identify their own subclades below A20032. All Y-DNA descendants of John (son of George) have been found to belong to a subclade of A20032>BY32573.[1] All Y-DNA descendants of Nathaniel (son of George) have been found to fall under A20032>A20047/ZW20 and all descendants of Sylvanus (son of Nathaniel) have been found to fall under ZW20>A20044. All Y-DNA descendants of George (son of George) have been found to fall into A20032>A22686[2] and there is an additional sublade A22686>FGC29004.

  1. Y-DNA descendants of three different sons of John2 all fall under the BY32573 haplogroup.
  2. This clade is not revealed by Big Y-700 testing, but it is found in Whole Genome Sequence (WGS) testing from other DNA companies like YSEQ, Nebula Genomics and Dante Labs.
