Status summary

Completed as of October 22, 2020:

  • Recruiting additional direct male-line Peabody descendants for NGS/WGS SNP testing - anyone interested in submitting their DNA for testing should contact Raymond T. Wing (email: wing.genealogist AT gmail DOT com)

Still to do as of October 22, 2020

  • NGS/WGS test multiple Southworth descendants to firmly place family clade as well as discover any subclades unique to descendants lines

Biography

In his 1905 Southworth Genealogy,[1] Samuel Webber claimed Edward Southworth was likely the son of Thomas Southworth of Samlesbury, Lancashire, England, who married Rosamond Lister. This ancestry has been refuted by Sue Allan in her 2019 book: In Search of Separatist Edward Southworth of Leiden

First Generation

Edward Southworth is now believed to be the Edward baptized at Clareborough, Nottinghamshire, England 12 Apr 1585, son of Richard Southworth & Imogene Aston (married in 1569). Edward died sometime shortly before the sailing of the Mayflower in 1620. He married Leiden, Holland 28 May 1613 Alice Carpenter. After Edward's death, Alice married (Gov.) William Bradford. Edward and Alice had at least two sons both who lived in Plymouth Colony: Constant & Thomas

Second Generation

(Gen.) Constant Southworth is said to have been born about 1612 and died in Duxbury 11 Mar 1678/9. He married at Plymouth 2 Nov 1637 Elizabeth Collier. They had eight children (born Duxbury): Mercy (1640), Priscilla (c1642), Edward (c1644), Alice (c1646), Nathaniel (c1649), Mary (c1654), William (c1659) and Elizabeth (c1661)

Thomas Southworth is said to have been born about 1617 and died at Plymouth 8 Dec 1669 in his 53rd year.[2] He married Plymouth 1 Sep 1641 Elizabeth Reynor.[3] They only had one daughter, Elizabeth (c1644).

Third Generation

Edward Southworth married Duxbury 16 Nov 1671 Mary Pabodie. They had eight children: Elizabeth (1672), Mercy (c1675), Thomas (c1676 m Sarah Alden, daughter of Jonathan Alden), Benjamin (c1681 m Abigail West & Rebecca Delano, daughter of Samuel Delano), Constant (c1683 m Abigail West & Rebecca Simmons daughter of John Simmons), John (c1687-1751 prob. unm.), Elizabeth (c1690) and Priscilla (c1692).

Nathaniel Southworth married Plymouth 10 Jan 1672 Desire Gray. They had six children: Hannah (c1672), Constant (son 1674), Mary (1676), Ichabod (1678 m Esther Hodges), Nathaniel (1684 m Jael Howland) and Edward (1688 m Bridget Bosworth).

William Southworth married twice, first to Rebecca Pabodie (died 25 Dec 1702). They had nine children: Benjamin (1681 m. Elizabeth Woodworth, Mary Church & Susanna Palmer), Joseph (1682/3 m. Mary Blague), Edward (1684 m Mary Fobes & Elizabeth Palmer), Elizabeth (1686), Alice (1688), Samuel (1690 m Abigail ___), Nathaniel (1692 m Mary Torrey), Thomas (1694 m Patience Thurston, only 1 dau.), and Stephen (1696 m. Previous Y-DNA testing

According to the Southworth-Southard surname DNA Project Subgroup SF02 (Southworths from Samlesbury) the Southworth family falls under: R-P312>>L21>DF13>Z39589>S1051>S1050>FGC17980>FGC17990>S1057>FGC17983>FGC46958>FT260574>BY39173

Further needed testing

We need patrilineal (all male-line) descendants of the Southworth family to WGS/NGS test to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
