  1. Some sources state George was son of John Young and Abigail Howland (daughter of Henry Howland, brother to Pilgrim John Howland). However the Young surname DNA Project documents where John Young falls under R1B-M269 Group 4 while George Young falls under R1B-M269 Group 15 and their Y-STR markers are too diverse to be related. While George likely was born in Plymouth Colony, his parentage has not been discovered.
  2. Recorded in (East) Bridgewater, Scituate and Plymouth.
  3. Hannah was married thrice. First to George Young, next abt 1681 John Wetherell and finally bef 1694 Jonathan Morey (later Mowry).
  4. Likely related to Giles Rickard of Somersetshire, England and Plymouth, MA.
  5. She was the widow of Daniel Standlake who died 7 May 1638.
  6. These children were recorded in the Barbour Collection of Connecticut Vital Records (Ashford pp. 267-8 citing original VRs 4:50).

Previous Y-DNA testing

Young DNA Project Subgroup R1b M269 Group 15 has four males tested, one claiming George Young 1640-1673 was their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA). None of the four have done any Y-SNP testing and two of them have done Y-67 STR testing (However, there appears to be another individual who has done Y-111 STR testing). Plugging in the 111Y-STR values into the Nevgen Haplogroup Prediction tool (set to predict R1b haplogroups) gives a 87.7% probability of the family falls under an unsupported clade. The other results all fell under the major clades of L151: P312 and U106.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Thomas Young to WGS/NGS test to both confirm the lineage as well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
