First Generation

[1]Jonathan Morey[1] was baptized at Salem 2 Apr 1637, son of Roger Morey/Mowry[2] and Mary Johnson. Jonathan died Plymouth 19 May 1708. He married twice, first Plymouth 8 Jul 1659 Mary BARTLETT Foster[2] and second, abt 1693-4 Hannah PINCEN Young Witherell. He only had three children by his first wife (born Plymouth): Jonathan (c1661), John (c1666 unknown if marr.) and Hannah (c1674).

Second Generation

Jonathan Morey (II) was born Plymouth about 1661 and died bet. 1 Sep 1732 and 26 Apr 1733. He married Plymouth 24 Jan 1689/90 Hannah Bourne and they had eight children (born Plymouth): Benjamin (1690), Maria (1692), Mary (1694), Thankful (1695/6), Jonathan (1699), Reliance (1702), Cornelius (1706-b1732 unm.) and Joseph (1710)

Third Generation

Benjamin Morey was born Plymouth 10 Nov 1690 and died there bef. 3 Apr 1744. He married Sandwich 3 Nov 1715 Thankful Swift and they had seven children (first five born Plymouth, last two Sandwich): Mary (1716), Maria (1718/9), Mercy (1721), Benjamin (1727 unk. if marr.), John (1729 m Jerusha Swift), Cornelius (bp 1731 m Sarah Johnson) and Elijah (bp 1733/4 unk. if marr.).

Jonathan Morey (III) was born Plymouth in Aug 1699 and died at Preston, CT. He married Sandwich 13 Jan 1728 Elizabeth Swift and they had three children: Jonathan (1730 unk. if marr.), Thomas (1732 m Sarah Crosby) and Elizabeth (1734).

Joseph Morey was born Plymouth 19 Jan 1710 and died aft 1754. He married aft 25 Apr 1733 Mary Swift and they had ten children: Abigail (1733), stillborn dau. (c1735), Joseph (1737), Mary (1739), Elisha (1741), Philemon (1743), Hannah (1745), Samuel (1750), Lathrop (1753) and Ruhamah (1755).

  1. The surname of his father and his brothers morphed into Mowry in Rhode Island, but Jonathan's descendants used Morey & Mory.
  2. Emigrated to Salem in 1630.

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Morey surname DNA Project currently does not list any Y-DNA descendants of Roger Mowry/Morey in its database.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Roger Mowry (and preferably of his son Jonathan Morey) to WGS/NGS test to discover the haplogroup/clade for the family.
