  1. DNA testing West Surname DNA Project has conclusively proven where Francis West (husband of Susanna Soule) could not have been son of Francis West and Margery Reeves. In addition, one descendant of Matthew West b. 1598 has done Y-DNA testing and falls under a completely different haplogroup. Thus it is highly unlikely Francis was a son of Matthew.

Previous Y-DNA testing

The West Surname DNA Project Subgroup: "R Haplogroup" includes multiple clusters of individuals (not all STR matching each other), claiming their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA) was Francis West (married Susanna Soule). Most of these individuals have not done any Y-DNA SNP testing.

Further Y-DNA testing

A comprhensive study of the different clusters of individuals, along with what they know of their lineage is needed in order to identify which line is correct. The differences in STR markers indicate a high likelihood these are different families.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Francis West to WGS/NGS test to both confirm this prediction as well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
