Origins
A private correspondence with the project administrator of the Fance/Faunce surname project at Family Tree DNA revealed where the administrator (a Fance from England) is a 67 Y-STR match to a John Faunce descendant (and a 2 step mis-match at 37 markers to a second John Faunce descendant). The Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA) of the Project Administrator is Edward Faunce (d. 1605 Maldon, Essex, ENG). The will of Edward's widow (dated 1618) named two sons Thomas and John. The son Thomas (bp Maldon 20 Jun 1602) used the Fance surname and was the ancestor of the Project Administrator. Nothing further is known of the son John Faunce. It is possible he may have been the immigrant John Faunce, but it is certain that the immigrant John Faunce is in some way patrilineally related to this Faunce/Fance family.
