First Generation

Josiah Keen was born about 1620 in London, England, son of John Keen and Martha Mey[1] and died in Duxbury 15 Sep 1710. He married twice, first abt 1655 to Abigail Little, then bef 1661 to Hannah Dingley. By his first wife, Josiah had a daughter (died young) & Josiah (II). By his second wife, he had seven children,[2] including Ephraim.

Second Generation

Josiah Keen (II) was born in Marshfield abt 1658 and died prob. Pembroke bet. 1728-1732. He married abt 1681 Lydia Baker and they had eleven children (born Duxbury): Benjamin (1682 m Deborah Barker but likely no children), Josiah (1683 dy), Abigail (1685), Eleanor, Lydia, Josiah, Nathaniel (1692), Bethiah, Samuel, Isaac and Hezekiah (1702).

Ephraim Keen was born in Duxbury about 1669 and died in Middleborough about Oct 1731. He married Scituate 7 Apr 1703 Hannah Sprout and they had: Mary (1705), Ephraim (1707), Lazarus (1710-1711), Hannah (1713), Abigail (1716), Weltha (1719), Robert (1721) and Elizabeth (1724).

Third Generation

Josiah Keen was born Duxbury abt 1691 and died aft 15 Feb 1757. He married Abington 14 Mar 1717 Rebecca Rose and they had three children: Joseph (1718), Lydia (1720) and Josiah (1722).

Nathaniel Keene was born Duxbury 11 Nov 1692 and died aft 20 Mar 1765. He married Marshfield 27 Oct 1725 Thankful Winslow and they had five children: Nathaniel (1726 unm.), Joshua (1730), Asa (1732), Snow (1734) and Thankful (1737).

Samuel Keen was born Duxbury abt 1696 and died Pembroke bef 1 Jan 1754. He married twice, first Duxbury 18 Apr 1719 Ruth Sprague and second Pembroke 4 Jan 1737 Margaret Redding. By his first wife he had seven children: William (1720), Levi (1722), Abel (1724), Grace (1726), Samuel (1729/30), Isiah (1732/3) and Ruth (1734). By his second wife he had three more children: Asher (1739), Moses (1741) and Judah (1743 unm.).

Isaac Keen was born Duxbury abt 1698 and died bef 26 Mar 1787. He married thrice, first Scituate 17 Feb 1724/5 Deborah Dwelly, then Hanover 16 Nov 1733 Lydia Jones and finally Marshfield 16 Feb 1773 Abigail Kent (no ch.). By his first wife he had one child: Simeon (1725). By his second wife he had eight more children: Lemuel (1734), Isaac (1736), Deborah (1739), Lydia (1741 d.y.), Lot (1743), Lydia (1746), Eleanor (1748) and Patience (1751).

Hezekiah Keen was born Duxbury 6 Aug 1702 and died there 27 Dec 1770. He married Newbury 18 Apr 1730 Alice Howland and they had eleven children: Prince (1730/1), Charles (1732/3), Mark (1735), Robert (1736), Alice (1739), Diana (1741), Bethia (1743), Hezekiah (1745), Daniel (1748), Mary (1750) and William (1753).


Ephraim Keen (II) was born Pembroke 20 Mar 1707 and died Jul 1767. He married Middleborough 4 Jan 1738/9 Mercy Allyn and they had: Hannah (1740), Bannister (1743), Ephraim (1745), Huldah (1749), Seth (1752), Lois (c1755), Joseph (c1758), Job (c1760) and Abigail (1762).

Robet Keen was born Middleborough 12 Mar 1721 and died 1801. He married ___ and had at least: Elisabeth (1747).


  1. John & Martha emigrated with their family in Apr 1638 aboard the Confidence. They had other children as well.
  2. Children by this second marriage do not descend from any Mayflower passenger.

DNA results

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Keane (etc.) Y-DNA Project does not list any descendants of John Keen of Hingham.

Further needed testing

We need direct male-line descendants of John Keen to WGS/NGS test to refine it further and delineate descendant clades.
