First Generation

John Sawyer died after 8 Mar 1704/5 (Deed). He married twice, first Marshfield last of Nov 1666 Mercy Little and second Marshfield 23 Nov 1694 Rebecca BARKER Snow.[1] By his first wife, John had seven children (born Marshfield): --ke (1667), Mercy (1668/9), Susanna (1671 no further record), Thomas (1672 m. Mary ____ no children), Josiah (1675), Mary (1677 no further record) and Anne (d. 1682).

Second Generation

Josiah Sawyer was born 7 [worn]ary 1675 and died Tiverton (now in RI) abt Oct 1733. He married Tiverton 20 Dec 1705 Martha Seabury (a descendant of John Alden) and they had seven children (born Tiverton): John (1707-1794 unm.), Hannah (1710), Mercy (1711), Mary (1714), Abigail (1716), Priscilla (bp 1719) and Josiah (1725).

Third Generation

(Deacon) Josiah Sawyer (II) was born Tiverton 15 May 1725[2] and died Little Compton, RI 18 Sep 1792. He married thrice , first abt 1746 Sarah Pierce, then after 1775 Deborah Campbell (one daughter, Patience), and finally Little Compton 27 Jan 1791 Antrace CHURCH Wilcox. Children by first wife (born Little Compton): Lemuel (1748), Thomas (1749 d.y.), Antrace (1751),Priscilla (1754), Josiah (1756 m Betsey Pearce), Martha (1757), John (1759), Sarah (1761), infant (1763), infant (1765), George (1769), Jeremiah (1769), infant (1771) and Isaac (1773).

  1. By his second wife, John had nine daughters and an infant son, but they do not descend from a Mayflower passenger.
  2. Some sources state he was born in 1715.

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Sawyer DNA Project currently does not have any Y-DNA descendants of John Sawyer.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of John Sawyer to WGS/NGS test to discover the haplogroup/clade for the family.
