First Generation

No maiden name for Rebecca, wife of Samuel White, has been discovered in any contemporary record.[1] The Rochester Vital Records state where Samuel White had a record of his family's births entered. It stated both Samuel and Rebecca were born "about" 13 Mar 1646.[2] They were married about 1669 and Rebecca died at Rochester 25 Jun 1711 in her 65th year. Rebecca and Samuel had nine children (all recorded Rochester): John (1669), Samuel (1671), Elizabeth (1673, no further record), Melatiah (1676), Judith (1678, no further record), Helikiah (1682), Susanna (1682), Penelope (1687) and William (1690).

Second Generation

Susanna White was born Rochester 5 Apr 1682 and died there bef 10 Nov 1733. She married Sandwich 9 Sep 1703 Abraham Ashley and they had four children: Rebecca (1704 no further record), Marcy (1708), William (1710) and Elizabeth (1711).

Penelope White was born Rochester 12 Mar 1687 and died there before 23 Nov 1738. She married Rochester 31 May 1704 Peter Crapo (Crapeau) and they had ten children (Rochester): Francis (1705), Susanna (1707), Peter (1709), John (1711/2), Mary (1713), Elizabeth (c1715), Rebecca (1718), Hezekiah (1720), Nicholas (1720) and Seth (1722).

Third Generation

Marcy (Mary, Mercy) Ashley was born Rochester 5 Oct 1708 and died Freetown bef 31 May 1746. She married Rochester 12 Feb 1732/3 William Ashley and they had at least two children: Jephthah and Abraham (1743).

Elizabeth Ashley was born Rochester 23 Jul 1711 and died bef 5 Apr 1746. She married Rochester 14 Mar 1733/4 Samuel White (III) and they had at least three children: William (1734), Amasa (1736) and Rebecca (1738).


Susanna Crapo was born Rochester 5 Nov 1707 and died Dartmouth abt 28 Dec 1757. She married Rochester 8 Dec 1729 Louis DeMaranville and they had eleven children: Chaumont (son 1730/1), John (c1732), Mary (1735 m Benjamin Runnels), Frances (c1737 unk. if marr.), Susannah (1739 m James Spooner), Gabriella (c1742 m William Rounseville [II]), Charles (c1744), Elizabeth (1745 m John Simmons), Thankful (c1746 unk. if marr.), Stephen (c1750) and Louis.

Mary Crapo was born Rochester 27 Sep 1713 and died Dartmouth aft 28 Dec 1757. She married Rochester 31 Dec 1733 Jonathan Spooner and they had seven children: Barnabas (1735), Thomas (1737), Nathan (1740), Bigford (son 1743), Lazarus (1747), Patience (1749 m Gloud Votger) and Jonathan (1755).

Elizabeth Crapo was born Rochester abt 1715. She married Rochester 31 Oct 1734 James Lake and they had four children: Crapo (1735), Susannah (1736 m Thomas Alonzo Fowler), Alice (1740 unk. if marr.) and Merebah (1742 unk. if marr.)

Rebecca Crapo was born Rochester 22 Mar 1717/8 and died there 31 Jan 1791. She married Rochester 5 Jan 1743 John Matthews. Unknown whether they had any children.


  1. Some sources state her maiden name may have been Lapham or Greene, but no contemporary evidence has been found for either of these claims.
  2. The Town of Rochester was not settled until the 1680's so neither Samuel, nor his wife were born there. Samuel was born in Scituate, and it is possible his wife may have been born there as well.

DNA results TBD

To date, we know of no matrilinear (all female line) descendants of Rebecca, wife of Samuel White, has taken a mtDNA test and published their results. Matrilineal descendants are encouraged to contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com
