Biography
For more information see Merrick, Barbara Lambert, ed. Scott Andrew Bartley, Mayflower Families through Five Generations, vol. 24 (Brewster) Part I General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Plymouth, MA 2014.
First Generation
Richard Sparrow was born about 1605, presumably somewhere in Kent, England. He married Pandora[1] They emigrated to Plymouth Colony in 1632.[2] The family originally lived in Plymouth but moved to Eastham, where Richard is first recorded on 6 Apr 1653.[3] Richard died in Eastham 8 Jan 1660/1.[4] His wife survived him, but her date of death is unknown.
Richard and Pandora only had one (surviving) child: Jonathan
Second Generation
Jonathan Sparrow was supposedly "born" somewhere in Kent, England on 26 Oct 1633.[5] He died at Eastham (now East Orleans), Massachusetts 21 Mar 1706/7, aged 73 years[6] He was married three times, with his first marriage Eastham 26 Oct 1654 to Rebecca Bangs (death unknown). His second marriage is said to have been at Eastham between 5 Jun 1667 - 11 Sep 1671[7] to Hannah PRENCE Mayo (daughter of Gov. Thomas Prence & Patience Brewster and the widow of Nathaniel Mayo). Hannah's death is unknown, but Jonathan married for a third time at Barnstable, 23 Nov 1698 to Sarah (Lewis) Cobb.
Jonathan and his first wife Rebecca had seven children, including Rebecca, who married (Deacon) Thomas Freeman (but these children do not have ancestry going back to a Mayflower passenger). Jonathan and his second wife, Hannah, had three children: Patience and Richard (1675). Jonathan and his third wife, Sarah, had no children.
Third Generation
John Sparrow (son of Jonathan Sparrow and his first wife, Rebecca Bangs) was born Eastham 2 Nov 1656 and died Barnstable 23 Feb 1734. He married Eastham 5 Dec 1683 Apphia Tracy and they had four children (Eastham): Rebecca (1684), John (1687 unk. if marr.), Elizabeth (1689) and Stephen (1694).
Richard Sparrow was born Eastham 17 Mar 1669/70 and died there 13 Apr 1728. He married Mercy Cobb at Eastham 4 Feb 1701/2. They had nine children: Richard (1702), Rebecca (1704), Mercy (1706), Sarah (1708), Hannah (1711), Elizabeth (1717), Mary (1719), Priscilla (1722) and Jonathan (1724-1728).
Fourth Generation
Stephen Sparrow was born Eastham (now Orleans) abt 4 Sep 1694 and died East Haddam, CT 9 Sep 1785. He married Eastham 17 Nov 1717 Anna Mulford and they had: John (1719 m Anna Atwood), Thomas (1721 m Esther Smith), Elizabeth (twin, 1722/3), Stephen (twin, 1722/3 m Apphia Pepper), Nathaniel (1725 m Mary Johnson), Richard (1727 m Deborah Howland), Joshua (1730 unk. if marr.) and Apphia (1734).
Richard Sparrow (II) was born Eastham 10 Nov 1702 and died there 5 Jun 1774. He married Eastham 26 Sep 1723 Hannah Snow and they had five children (Eastham): Isaac (1725 m Rebecca Knowles), Rebecca (1726/7), Hannah (1730/1-1736), Hannah (1737) and Mercy (1739).

DNA results
Previous Y-DNA testing
The Sparrow DNA Surname Project currently lists thirteen males who have done a variety of Y-STR & Y-SNP testing. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine which (if any) of these individuals descend from (Capt.) Jonathan Sparrow & Hannah Prence[1]
Further needed testing
We need additional direct male-line descendants of Richard Sparrow b ca 1605 (and ideally Y-DNA descendants of Richard b 1669/70) to WGS/NGS test to both confirm the lineage as well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
- ↑ Two of the individuals fall under Y-DNA Haplogroup I-M253, while most of the others are predicted to fall under R1b-M269 with both R-U106 and R-P312 subclades among the testers.
