First Generation

Stephen West was born about 1654, son of Bartholomew West (likely son of Matthew West) and Katherine Almy. Stephen died Dartmouth 12 Aug 1748. He married about 1683 Mercy Cooke and they had nine children (born Darmouth): Katherine (1684), Sarah (1686), Ann (1688), Bartholomew (1690), Amy (1693), Stephen (1695), John (1697), Eunice (1699) and Lois (1701).

Second Generation

Bartholomew West was born Dartmouth 31 Jul 1690 and died Dartmouth bet 1767-1779. He married Dartmouth 16 Jul 1747 Ann Eldredge and they had seven children (born Dartmouth): Audria (1748/9), William (1750/1), Bartholomew (1753-c1754), Bartholomew (1756 unm), Edward (c1765 m Sarah Eldredge, no known ch), Thomas (unm) and Mercy.

Stephen West (II) was born Dartmouth 19 May 1695 and died there 7 Jul 1769. He married Dartmouth 15 Jan 1718 Susanna Jenny and they had eight children (born Dartmouth): Hannah (1720), Mercy (1722), Samuel (1725), Anne (1727), Almy (dau. 1729/30), Stephen (1731/2 m Susannah Tripp but likely no ch.), Bartholomew (1734) and Susannah (1737).

John West was born Dartmouth 27 Apr 1697 and died there in 1778. He married Dartmouth 24 Mar 1728 Rebecca Sisson and they had at least three children: Katherine (1730), Mary (1732) and John (1734 unm).

Third Generation

William West born Dartmouth 1 Feb 1750/1 died poss. New Bedford abt 1791. He married Yarmouth 28 Jan 1781 Deliverance Burgess and they had five children (Dartmouth [now New Bedford]): Thomas (1782), William (1783), Cynthia (1785), Bartholomew (1787) and Edward (1788).

Samuel West born Dartmouth 3 Apr 1725 and died New Bedford 13 Feb 1812. He married Dartmouth 17 Aug 1749 Salome Eldredge and they had five children (Dartmouth): Matthew (1750/1-1753), Elnathan (1753 m Mary Wood), Stephen (1756 m Hope Taber), Rhoda (1758) and Samuel (1762-b1808 likely unm).

Bartholomew West born Dartmouth 8 Nov 1734 died Fairhaven 13 Aug 1818. He married (int. Dartmouth 10 Jan 1769) Mary Shaw and they had eight children (prob. Dartmouth): Bartholomew (not in father's will), William, Sarah, Stephen, Hannah, Benjamin, Susanna and Samuel.

Previous Y-DNA testing

The West DNA Project has conflicting haplogroups for descendants of Matthew West. Group: Haplogroup I documents one individual who states their Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA) was Matthew West (grandfather of Stephen West). This individual has only done Y-37 STR testing and Family Tree DNA predicts he falls under the I-M253 Haplogroup. The second individual is Ungrouped, has Big Y-700 tested, and falls under the R-U106>>L48>CTS3104>S5940>FT171760>S6941>FT59585>FT59172>FT59639>FT59226>FT59232 haplogroup.

Further DNA testing needed

NGS/WGS testing of descendants of Matthew West (and preferably of Stephen West) would further refine this prediction.
