First Generation

Joseph Jones was baptized 30 Nov 1628 Caversham, Oxfordshire (now part of Greater Reading, Berkshire), son of Robert Jones and his first wife, Margaret Garnford. The family settled in Hingham, MA in 1637. Joseph died Hingham 18 Jul 1714. He married Weymouth 11 Nov 1657 Patience Little and they had ten children (born Hingham): John (c1658), Joseph (1660), Benjamin (1662/3), Patience (1665/6), Anna (1667/8), Ruth (1689), Sarah (1671), Ephraim (1673 m Margaret Fearing, no children) Mary (1676) and Thomas (1679).

Second Generation

John Jones was born Hingham abt 1658 and died Marshfield bef 2 Jun 1740. He married He married Marshfield 17 Feb 1697/8 Eleanor Winslow and they had eight children: Patience (1698), infant daughter (1699-1699) John (1701), Faith (1704), Eleanor (1706 d.y.), Anna (1708) Eleanor (1710), Nathanil (1713 unm.), Joseph (1715 unk. if marr.) and Benjamin.

Joseph Jones (II) was born Hingham 16 Sep 1660 and died Marshfield 21 Apr 1727. He married abt 1689 Sarah Ford and they had nine children (born Hingham): Joseph (1690-1695/6), Patience (d. 1693), Abigail (1694), Ebenezer (1696), Joseph (1698-1700), Elisha (1700), Amos (1702/3), John (1704) and William.

Benjamin Jones was born Hingham 8 Jan 1662/3 and died Dighton 1717-18. He married twice, first Hingham 14 Dec 1686 Susanna Beal and second Taunton 8 Apr 1695 Hannah Walker. He had one child by his first wife (born Hingham): Benjamin (1687-1691) and four more children by his second wife (born Hingham): Hannah (c1694), Benjamin (16970, Susannah and Mary.

Thomas Jones was born Hingham 15 Aug 1679 and died there 19 Mar 1723/4. He married Hingham 15 Feb 1703/4 Catherine Ceacel/Cearel and they had seven children (born Hingham): Joanna (1705), Lydia (1706/7), Patience (1709), Thomas (1711-1714), Thomas (1714/5) Sarah (1717) and Elizabeth (1720).

Third Generation

John Jones (II) was born Marshfield 20 Jul 1701 and died 1775. He married twice, first Scituate 20 Jul 1726 Jemima Perry and second abt 1737 Grace TURNER Soule. By his first wife he had one child: Jemima. By his second wife he had one more child: Ruth (c1738).

Ebenezer Jones was born Hingham 22 May 1696 and died bef 1 Mar 1756. He married Marshfield 19 Mar 1727/8 Jane King and they had six children: Hannah (1728-1729), Abigail (1730), Simeon (1732), Ebenezer (1735), Consider (twin 1739) and Seth (twin 1739).

Elisha Jones was born Hingham 25 Oct 1700 and died aft 11 Mar 1760. He married Scituate 11 Aug 1725 Sarah Hyland and they had six children: Deborah (1726), Joseph (1727), Sarah (1729) Content (bp1734/5), Elisha (1735) and Betty (1739).

Amos Jones was born Hingham 2 Mar 1702/3 and died bef 5 Mar 1749. He married Marshfield 1730 Naomi Phillips but they had no surviving children.

John Jones was born Hingham 1704 and died bef 28 Oct 1765. He married Scituate 22 Mar 1738/9 Ruth Hatch and they had five children: Samuel (1739/40), John (1741), Amos (1742), Ezekiel and Betty (bp1756).

William Jones was born Hingham abt 1710 and died 1789. He married Hingham 23 Apr 1753 Elizabeth JONES Wilder and they had two children: William (1754) and Betty.

Benjamin Jones (II) was born Hingham 24 Sep 1697 and died Taunton 24 Jul 1767. He married Dighton 18 Feb 1719/20 Lydia Terry and they had eleven children: Benjamin (1721), Ephraim (1722/3), Abigail (1724/5), John (1726), Mary (1729), Hannah (1730), Abial (1732), Elizabeth (1734/5), Thomas (1737), Zephaniah (1738/9) and Lydia (1742).

Thomas Jones (II) was born Hingham 11 Mar 1714/5 and died there 8 Sep 1791. He married Hingham 30 Sep 1737 Mary Marsh and they had seven children: Thomas (1738-1738/9), Mary (1741-1748/9), Thomas (1742), John (1745-1748/9), Sarah (1748/9) Mary (1750) and John (1753).

DNA results R1b-M222

Previous Y-DNA testing

Currently the Jones DNA Project R - M269 - Family Group 51 lists one individual claiming Robert Jones (father of Joseph) as their Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA). One individual has done Y111 STR testing, but has not SNP tested. FTDNA predicts him to fall under R-M269. Plugging in his 111 Y-STRs into the NevGen Haplogroup Prediction tool gives a result of: R1b L21>DF13> Z39589>DF49>>M222 with 100% certainty.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Robert Jones (and preferably of his son Joseph) to WGS/NGS test to discover the haplogroup/clade for the family.
