Status summary

Completed as of October 21, 2020:

  • Recruiting additional direct male-line Edmund Weston descendants for NGS/WGS SNP testing - anyone interested in submitting their DNA for testing should contact Raymond T. Wing (email: wing.genealogist AT gmail DOT com)

Still to do as of August 29, 2020

  • NGS/WGS test multiple Edmund Weston descendants to firmly place family clade as well as discover any subclades unique to descendants lines

Biography

First Generation

The first known record of Edmund Weston was on the passenger list for the Elizabeth & Ann dated 8 May 1635, when he stated he was 30 years old. However, upon his emigration, he became a servant to John Winslow, and in Nov 1636 Winslow turned over the servitude (for two years beginning May 1637) to Nathaniel Thomas. Edmund had finished his indentured service by 1639 when he took the Oath of Fidelity at Duxbury. The date/place of his marriage and the name of his wife is currently unknown.[1] He continued to live in Duxbury, where he made his will 18 Apr 1686, which was proved 3 Jun 1686.

Edmund had four children, a daughter Mary (married Philip Delano) and three sons: Edmund, Elnathan and John

Second Generation

Edmund (II) was born, presumably at Duxbury, about 1660.[2] He died at Plympton (where he was one of the first settlers) 23 Sep 1727 "in his 67th year". Edmund married Plymouth 13 Dec 1688 Rebecca Soule. They had six children (born in that section of Plymouth which became Plympton): Nathan (1688/9), Zachariah (1690), Rebecca (1693), John (1695), Edmund (1697) and Benjamin (1701).

Elnathan was born, presumably at Duxbury, about 1662.[3] and died there 23 Apr 1729. He married about 1688 to Jane _____ and they had five children: Mary (c1688), Sarah (c1688), Samuel (c1690), Joseph (c1692) and Abigail (c1704).

John was born, presumably at Duxbury, about 1664. He married twice, first by 1698 to Deborah Delano, and second Duxbury, 1 Oct 1717 Rebecca Peterson. By his first wife he had (born Duxbury): Rebecca (c1698), Desire (c1700), Deborah (1702), Isaac (c1704), Jonathan (c1706), Abner (c1708) & Eliphas (son c1710). By his second wife John had: David (1722).

Third Generation

Nathan Weston was born Plymouth (now Plympton) 8 Feb 1688/9 and died Plympton 11 Oct 1754. He married there 21 Feb 1715 Desire Standish and they had four children (born Plympton): Nathan (1723 m Hannah Everson), Isaac (1725 m Mary Ripley), Jacob (1727-1760 unm.) and Desire (1730).

Zachariah Weston was born Plymouth (now Plympton) 6 Dec 1690 and died Middleborough 27 Sep 1763. He married Plympton 23 Jun 1717 Mehitable Shaw and they had five children: Jonathan (1717/8 m Elizabeth Bosworth), Zachariah (1719-1726), James (1723 m Abigail Dunham), Mehitable (1726) and Zachariah (1728 m Rebecca Standish & _____ Pomeroy).

John Weston was born Plymouth (now Plympton) 27 Jul 1695 and died Middleborough. He married twice, first 14 Mar 1754 Elizabeth Leonard and second 6 Dec 1776 Priscilla Sturtevant. By his first wife, John had: Priscilla, Content (never married), Salome and Hannah (never married). By his second wife John had: John (m Dolly Sprague), and poss. Hercules.

  1. Several sources claim his wife was Jane de la Noye (Delano), daughter of Philippe de la Noye & Hester Dewsbury, but this identity has not been accepted by many.
  2. He deposed 25 Dec 1698 "aged about 38 years".
  3. Other sources state he was born about 1657

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Weston Worldwide surname DNA Project Group 06 has one individual claiming a Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA) as Edmund Weston b. 1605. This individual has not done any SNP tested, but has done Y67 STR testing. FTDNA predicted the family would fall under the I1-M253 Haplogroup. Plugging in the STR values into the Nevgen Haplogroup Prediction tool comes back with an unsupported clade, so we cannot currently refine FTDNA's prediction.

Further needed testing

We need direct male-line Peabody descendants of Edmund Weston to WGS/NGS test to both confirm the lineage as well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
