Biography

First Generation

Joshua3 Ripley (John, William [II]) was born Hingham 9 Nov 1658 and died Windham, CT 18 May 1739. He married WIndham 28 Nov 1682 Hannah Bradford and they had twelve children (Windham): Alice (1683), Hannah (1684/5), Faith (1686), Joshua (1688), Margaret (1690), Leah & Rachel (twins 1693), Hezekiah (1695), David (1697), Irene (1700), Anna & Jerusha (twins 1704).

Second Generation

Joshua Ripley (II) was born Hingham 13 May 1688 and died Windham, CT 18 Nov 1773. He married Windham 8 Dec 1712 Mary Backus and they had nine children: Mary (1716), Phineas (1716-1746 unm.), Hannah (1718), Nathaniel (1721), Elizabeth (1724), Joshua (1726), Ebenezer (1729), William (1733) and John (1738).

Hezekiah Ripley was born Windham, CT 10 Jun 1695 and died there 7 Feb 1779. He married twice, 1) Windham bef. 16 Oct 1740 Miriam Fitch (no ch.) and 2) Windham 25 Nov 1746 Mary Skinner. By his second wife he had: Hezekiah (1748).

David Bradford Ripley was born Windham, CT and died Scotland, CT 16 Feb 1781. He married Windham 21 Mar 1720 Lydia Cary and they had twelve children: Faith (1722), Leah (1723/4), Anna (1726), Irena (1728), David Bradford (1731), William (1734), Gamaliel (1736-1737), Alathea (1738), Gamaliel (1740), Hezekiah (1742), Bradford (1744) and Hannah (1750).

Third Generation

Nathaniel Ripley was born Windham, CT 30 Jun 1721 and died aft. 6 Feb 1752. He married there 31 Oct 1745 Ann Ripley[1] and they had three children (Windham): Phineas (1746/7), Ann (1749) and Amy (1751).

Joshua Ripley (III) was born Windham, CT 30 Oct 1725 and died there 17/19 Dec 1787. He married twice 1) Windham 26 Mar 1748 Elizabeth Lathrop and 2) 25 Nov 1779 Deborah Bingham (no ch.) By his first wife he had ten children: Eliphalet (1749), Ralph (1751), Elizabeth (1754), Olive (1756), Ralph (1759 unm.), Joshua (1761 unm.), Lydia (1763), Nathaniel (1768), Erastus (1770) and Mary (1774).

Ebenezer Ripley was born Windham, CT 22/27 Jun 1729 and died there 11 Jun 1811. He married Suffield, CT 11 Jun 1752 Mehitable Burbank and they had: Hannah (1753), Eleanor (1754), Jerusha (1756), Juliana (1757-1759), Justin (1759-1761), Abraham (1760), Abiah (1762), Dwight (1764), Ebenezer (1766), Thaddeus (1767) Anna (1770) and Horace (1772).

William Ripley was born Windham 12 Feb 1734 and died Cornish, NH 17 Feb 1818. He married Windham, CT 11 Jan 1757 Lydia Brewster and they had five children (Windham): Faith (1757), Alethea (1759-1759), Alathea (1761), James & Selinda (twins 1763).

John Ripley was born Windham 31 Mar 1738 and died Hartford, CT 27 Jun 1823. He married Windham, CT 7 Jun 1769 Abigail Marsh and they had eleven children (Windham): Henrietta (1770-1795 unm.), Elisha Paine (1771-1773), Abigail (1773-1777), Polly (1775-1777), Hannah (1777-1777), Lucy (1778 unm.), John Bradford (1780), William Bradford (1784-1785), Jabez (1786), Oliver (1788), Julia (1792).


Hezekiah Ripley (II) was born Windham 25 Sep/6 Oct 1748 and died there 11 Nov 1836. He married Windham 29 Apr 1784 Eunice (Chester) Dumont[2] and they had five children: Hezekiah (1785), Marian (1786), Eunice (1789), George (1792) and Lucy (1794).


  1. After Nathaniel's death Ann married Scotland 17 May 1769 Samuel Bingham.
  2. Eunice married Michael Claudius Dumont
