First Generation

Persis Lewis was born Swansea 15 Jan 1671, daughter of Thomas Lewis and Hannah Baker. She died Kingston 14 Jan 1743/4. Persis married about 1697 Robert Cushman and they had seven children (Plymouth): Robert (1698), Ruth (1700), Abigail (1701), Hannah (1705), Thomas (1706), Joshua (1707) and Jonathan (1712).

Second Generation

Ruth Cushman was born Plymouth 25 Mar 1700 and died after 9 Feb 1746/7. She married Plympton 28 Jan 1716/7 Luke Perkins and they had three children (Plympton): Ignatius (1720), Hannah (1723), Luke (c1725) and Mary (1726 unk. if marr.)

Abigail Cushman was born Plymouth 9 Jul 1701 and died after 9 Feb 1746/7. She married (int. Kinston 17 Apr 1727) John Leonard and they had four children (Middleborough): John (1735), Abigail (1738), Meshach (1741) and Caleb (1744).

Hannah Cushman was born Plymouth 25 Dec 1705.[1] and died after 29 Jul 1750. She married Kingston 23 May 1727 Moses Washburn and they had seven children (Bridgewater): Peter (1728), Moses (1730), child (d. 1731/2), Robert (1733), Ira (1734/5), Bezaleel and Thomas.

Third Generation

Hannah Perkins was born Plympton 27 May 1723 and died Carver 2 May 1802. She married Plympton 10 May 1739 Nathaniel Shaw and they had nine children: Mary (1741 m Francis Shurtleff & Thomas Savery), Elizabeth (1744 m ___ Atwood), Joseph (1749), Hannah (1751 m Ichabod Atwood), Ruth (1753 m Gideon Cushman), Sarah (1756 m Caleb Atwood), Jonathan (1759), Deliverance (dau, 1763 m ___ Cobb) and Zilpha (1765 m ___ Hackett).


Abigail Leonard was born Middleborough 15 Oct 1738. She married Ephraim Hackett.


  1. The Plymouth VRs give the following: Hannah Cushman born 25 Dec 1705, Thomas Cushman born 14 Feb 1706 and Joshua Cushman born 14 Oct 1707. At least one of these years must be in error.

Previous mtDNA testing

To date, no known direct female line descendants of Persis LEWIS Cushman are known to have done mtDNA testing and published their results. Anyone who believes they descend in a direct female line (ie mother's mother's mother's etc mother) is encouraged to contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com
