First Generation

(Sgt.) Samuel3 Steele (John, John, Richard, Richard) was born Farmington, CT 15 Mar 1652 and died Hartford, CT bef 2 Jan 1710. He married Hartford 16 Sep 1680 Mercy Bradford and they had eight children: Thomas (1681), Elizabeth (c1682), Jerusha (twin, 1684), Samuel (twin, 1684-c1710 unm.), William (1687-1712 unm.), Abial (dau, 1693), Daniel (1697) and Eliphalet (1700)

Second Generation

Thomas Steele was born Hartford, CT 9 Sep 1681 and died there 27 Nov 1757. He married Hartford 10 May 1709 Susanna Webster and they had: Jerusha (1710), Samuel (1711/2), William (1713), Susanna (1715), Thomas (1717), James (1719), Nathaniel (1721) and John (1723).

Daniel Steele was born Hartford, CT 3 Apr 1697 and died there 13 Mar 1788. He married Hartford 20 Jun 1725 Mary Hopkins and they had eight children: Daniel (1726), Mary (1728), Welthia (1730), Timothy (1736), Rosewell (1738), Thomas (1738), Lemuel (1742) and Submit (1736).

Eliphalet Steele was born (West) Hartford, CT 23 Jun 1700 and died there Jul 1773. He married Hartford 4 Oct 1722 Catherine Marshfield and they had eleven children: Eliphalet (1723 d.y.), Josiah (1724/5), Catherine (1725/6), Mercy (1727), Theophilus (1730), Eliphaz (1732), Elijah (1735), Rachel (1737), Catherine (1739/40), Eliphalet (1742) and Jerusha (1746).

Third Generation

Samuel Steele was born Hartford 11 Mar 1711/2 and died West Hartford 12/13 Sep 1779. He married twice, first West Hartford 20 Dec 1739 Elizabeth Merry and second Martha ____ (no ch.) By his first wife he had: Timothy (bp 1739), Samuel (bp 1740 d.y.), Elizabeth (1741), Thomas (bp 1742), Anna (1745), Mary & Sarah (twins, 1747 both d.y.), Mary & Sarah (twins, 1749), Martha (1751), Lucretia (1753), Samuel (1755-1776 unm.), Allyn (1757), Martin (1760-1769), Sybil (1763) and Joel (1767).

William Steele was born Hartford 10 Dec 1713 and died New Hartford, CT bet. will (10 Feb) and Probate (22 Apr) 1777. He married abt 1741 Lydia Seymour and they had seven children: William (1742), Timothy (1745), Lydia (1747/8), Hulda (1749), Isaac (1752), Roderick (1755) and Seth (1757).

James Steele was born Hartford 22 Dec 1719 and died 1776. He married abt 1745 Lois ____ and they had eight children (New Hartford): James (1746), Lois (1748), Sarah (1750), John (1753), Jesse (1755), Susanna (1760), Elizabeth (1763) and Anna (1764).

Nathaniel Steele was born West Hartford 11 Mar 1721 and died Hartford 5 Oct 1787 or 15 Oct 1789. He married West Hartford 16 Oct 1746 Susanna Olmstead and they had ten children: Susanna (bp 1747 d.y.), Nathaniel (bp 1747), Moses (bp 1750), Anna (bp 1753), Susanna (1753-1770), Abigail (bp 1755), Sarah (bp 1758), Hezekiah (bp 1760), Frederick (1762) and stillborn child (1764).

John Steele was baptized West Hartford 17 Nov 1723 and died there 5 Dec 1760. He married Lydia Francis[1] and they had two children: John (bp 1749) and Timothy (bp 1759).


Timothy Steele was bp 2nd Church of Hartford 19 Jun 1736 and died there 16 Jun 1706. He married Sarah Seymour and they had eight children: Roswell (c1765 unm.), Sarah (c1767), Lucy (c1769), Daniel (1772), Lavinia (c1772 d.y.), Mittie (1777) and Oliver (c1781).

Roswell Steele was bp Hartford 4 Feb 1738/9 and prob. died before his father.[2] He married Emma ___ and they poss. had: Emma.

Thomas Steele was born Hartford 1740 and died there Aug 1828. He married twice, first Hartford, Eunice Clapp and second abt. Oct 1808 Olive ___ Rodgers (no ch.). By his first wife Thomas had seven children: Horace (1775), Thomas (1777), Hezekiah (1785), Eunice, Rhoda, Anne and Nancy (c1782).

Lemuel Steele was born Hartford about 1742 and died there 22 Nov 1815. He married Hartford 1764 Mary clapp and they had thirteen children: Wealthie (1765), Mary (1767), Elizabeth (1769), Chloe (1771), Frederick (1774), Levi (1776), Dorothy (1778), Martha (1781), Henry (1783), Harriet (1785), Lemuel (1787), Lucy (1790) and Hepsibah (1794).


Josiah Steele was born Hartford 24 Feb 1723/4 and died there 11 Mar 1801. He married Hartford 2/11 Dec 1753 Elizabeth Colton and they had nine children: Elizabeth (1754), Amanda (1756), Joshia (1760), Marshfield (1762-1770), Rachel (1764), Catherine (1766), George (1768) and Marshfield (1771).

Theophilus Steele was baptized West Hartford 31 May 1730 and died there 10 Jul 1775. He married 1760 Marianne Hosmer and they had Theophilus (bp 1761).

Elijah Steele was bp W. Hartford 20 Apr 1735 and died Cornwall, CT aft. 23 Nov 1804. He married twice, first Cornwall 18 Jan 1759 Esther Millard and second Cornwall 4 Aug 1773 Sarah Andrews (no ch.) By his first wife Elijah had five children: Matthew (1760-1760), Matthew Millard (1761), Elijah (1764), Eliphalet Mosefield (1766), Orlo (1768-1768).

Eliphalet Steele (II) was bp. W. Hartford 27 Jun 1742 and died Paris, NY 7 Oct 1817. He married twice, first New Marlborough 4 Dec 1771 Elizabeth Strong and second Feb 1797 Chloe (Flint) Chapman (no ch.) By his first wife Eliphalet had nine children: Elizabeth (1772), Catherine (1774-1776), Catherine (1776), Louisa (1778), Jerusha (1780), Nancy (1782), Theophilus (1784), Pamelia (1786) and Sophia (1789-1792).
