Previous Y-DNA testing

The Gibbs Surname DNA Project Group: The Massachusetts Bay Colony Gibbs Clade - R1b1a2 and the Gibbs Surname DNA Project lists one individual claiming Thomas Gibbs as their Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA).[1] This group also had a number of Matthew Gibbs descendants, so it clear Matthew and Thomas were closely related.[2]

NGS/WGS testing

Two[3] Matthew Gibbs descendants have taken a Big Y-700 test and found to fall under: R-P312>ZZ11>U152>L2>Z49>Z142>Z51>L562>BY158668>BY66388>FT129526.

Lineage of Y-DNA testers

The Gibbs Surname DNA Project does list the lineage of several testers, including the following descendants of Thomas Gibbs.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Thomas Gibbs (and preferably of his son Thomas [II]) to WGS/NGS test to confirm the single Thomas Gibbs line as well as possibly further refine the haplogroup/clade prediction for the family.

  1. But communication with a member of this group reveals where he recruited several descendants of Thomas Gibbs to Y-DNA test.
  2. NGS/WGS testing of multiple descendants may help reveal their exact relationship.
  3. There is a third Big Y-700 test, but it is unknown whether this individual descends from Thomas or Matthew.
