Biography

First Generation

(Maj.) James Fitch, son of James (Thomas, George, Roger) Fitch and Abigail Whitefield, was born Saybrook (prob. now Essex), CT 2 Aug 1649 and died Canterbury, CT 10 Nov 1727. He married twice, first Jan 1676 Elizabeth Mason (not descended from a Mayflower passenger) and second Norwich 8 May 1697, Alice Bradford and by this marriage they had seven children: Abigail (1687/8), Ebenezer (1689/90), Daniel (1692/3), Lucy (c1697), Jerusha (1699/1700), Theophilus (c1702) and Jabez (c1703).

Second Generation

Ebenezer Fitch was born Norwich, CT 10 Jan 1689/90 and died Windsor, CT 20 Nov 1724. He married Canterbury 18 Sep 1712 Bridget Brown and they had six children: Alice (1712/3), James (1715), Elijah (1717/8), Eleazer (1720), Medinah (1722) and Ebenezer (1724/5).

(Capt.) Daniel Fitch was born Canterbury, CT 20 Feb 1691/2 and died there 3 Aug 1752. He married Canterbury 5 Mar 1718 Anna Cooke and they had six children: William (1720), James (1722), Ebenezer (1724), John (1726), Daniel (1728/9) and Theophilus (1731).

Theophilus Fitch was born Canterbury, CT abt 1701 and died there 20 Jul 1751. He married twice, first Canterbury 15 Dec 1731 Mary Huntington (no ch.) and second, Stonington 2 Oct 1734 Grace Prentice. By his second wife he had: Samuel (1735), Theophilus (1737), Phineas (1739-1739), James (1740), Daniel (1742-1743), Mary (1744) and Sarah (1748).

(Capt.) Jabez Fitch was born Norwich, CT abt 30 Jan 1703 and died Canterbury, CT 31 Jan 1784. He married thrice, 1) Canterbury, CT 29 May 1722 Lydia Gale 2) Canterbury 14 Jan 1754 Elizabeth (Spaulding) Darby (no ch.) and 3) Rebecca (Ensworth [?Ainsworth]) King (no ch.) By hif first wife he had eight children: Jerusha (1722/3), Alice (1724/5), Perez (1726), Jabez (1728), Lucy & Lydia (twins, 1736), Aashel (1736) and Abigail (1738).

Third Generation

James Fitch was born Windsor, CT 24 Jul 1715 and died aft 17 Aug 1782. He married Coventry, CT 6 Oct 1738 Phebe Maraugh and they had eight children: Phebe (1738-1738/9), Richard (1742), Phebe (1748), Jesse (1752), Sarah (1755), Hannah (1757), Russell (1760) and James (1762).

Elijah Fitch was born Winndsor, CT 23 Feb 1717/8 and died Chester, Nova Scotia aft 28 Apr 1778. He married twice, 1) Windsor, CT 28 Oct 1742 Mary Loomis and 2) Ashford 24 Sep 1745 Abigail Taylor. By his first wife he had: Mary (1744). By his second wife he had four more children: Ebenezer (1746), Sophiah (1751-1753), Elihu (1753-1754) and Keziah (1758).

Eleazer Fitch was born Windsor, CT 28 May 1720 and died there 2 May 18800. He married Windham, CT 11 May 1738 Zerviah Wales and they had: Zerviah (1739-1739), Zerviah (1741), Eleazer (1743), Nathaniel (1745), Bridget (1748-1759), Shubael (1749/50), Mary (1751), Abner (1753-1754), Olive (1755), Luther (1757) and Jerusha (1761).

Medinah Fitch was born Windsor, CT 20 Nov 1722 and died Ellington, CT 14 Nov 1792. He married twice 1) Windsor, CT Lydia Avery and 2) Jerusha Thomson (likely no ch.) By his first wife he had: Jonathan (1745), Bridget (1746), prob. Elnathan (c1758) and prob. Medinah.

Ebenezer Fitch (II) was born Windsor, CT 10 Mar 1724/5 and died Wallingford, CT abt 1775. He married Wallingford 16 May 1749 Lydia Johnson and they had seven children: Lydia (1749-1750), Justus Johnson (1751), Hezekiah (1753), Cynthia (c1758), Lydia (1761-1761), Ebenezer (1762-1762) and Irene (1771).

William Fitch was bp Canterbury, CT 17 Jul 1720 and died Oneida Co., NY. He married Canterbury, CT 27 Jan 1740/1 Mary Paine and they had eleven children: Anna (1742), William (1743/4), Abigail (1745), Mary (1747), Elisha (1749), Alice (1751), Rufus (1755), Olive & Phebe (twins 1757), James Paine (1758) and Daniel (1762).

Ebenezer Fitch was born Canturbury, CT 14 Jul 1724 and died Norwich, CT 13 Jan/Feb 1797. He married Norwich 3 Sep 1750 Mary Huntington and they had eleven children: Eunice (1751-1752), Gerard (1753), Eunice (1755), Abigail (1757), Ebenezer (1759), Rogere (1761), Mary (1764), Oliver (1766), Elizabeth (1768), Sarah (1771) and Charles (1775-1801 unm.)

Theophilus Fitch was born Canterbury, CT 14 Jul 1731 and died there bef. 4 Jul 1781. He married Hannah Ashley and they had Hannah (c1761).
