Previous Y-DNA testing
Previous Y-STR testing through the Mayflower Society[1] and the Soule surname DNA project[2] has indicated that the Mayflower Soule lineage belongs to the Y haplogroup I-M253, which is quite common in Northern and Northwestern Europe. More specifically, the Soule lineage can be classified within I-M253 as DF29>Z58>Z59>Z60>Z140>Z2535>S1954>S12289>A20032.
Y-DNA descendants of George Soule have begun to identify their own subclades below A20032. Descendants of son John have been found to be BY32573 while descendants of Nathaniel have been found to be ZW20.[3]
Y Elite test results may be able to place the Soule lineage more precisely and will identify a number of more recent SNP markers. Testing of multiple individuals may be able to pin individual SNP markers to specific individuals affiliated with George Soule.
