Biography

First Generation

Mary Durrant was possibly born as early as 1580 and was likely from the Ufford, Suffolkshire, England area. It is likely she married William Ring "of Petistrey" at Ufford on 21 May 1601[1] The family moved to Leiden and possibly attempted to emigrate to the New World on the Speedwell but due to the unseaworthiness of the ship, ended up back at Leiden.[2] William Ring died in Leiden and the widow and her children presumably emigrated to New England aboard the Mayflower[3] in 1629. Mary died at Plymouth on either 15 or 19 Jul 1631.[4]

By Stephen Dean(e) she had three children (Plymouth): Elizabeth (c1629), Miriam (c1632) and Susanna (1634). By Josiah Cooke, she had three more children: Anne (1636), Bethiah (c1640) and Josiah (1643).
