The [https://www.familytreedna.com/public/payne?iframe=ycolorized Payne DNA Project] documents one individual claiming Ralph Pain as their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA). This individual matches descendants of Thomas Paine and FTDNA predicts it to fall under R1b-M269. Plugging the modal values of the group into NevGen (for R1b) gives an estimated Haplgroup of: R1b L21>DF13> Z39589>Z251> Z16943 with 36.5% possibility (and the rest an unsupported subclade).

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Payne DNA Project documents one individual claiming Ralph Pain as their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA). This individual matches descendants of Thomas Paine and has taken the Big Y-700 test with his clade being: R-L21>S552>DF13>Z39589>Z251>Z16943>FGC34554>A6078>A6077>BY23461>BY23600. It is likely descendants of both Pain(e) families fall into this clade.

NGS/WGS testing

NGS/WGS testing would confirm/refute this assignment and further refine it.

Further needed testing

We need additional direct male-line descendants of Ralph Paine (and particularly through his son Thomas) to WGS/NGS test to both confirm the haplogroup assignmentas well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
