Biography

First Generation

[1]Richard Williams was baptized Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire 28 Jan 1606/7, son of William Williams & Jane Woodward. He emigrated to Plymouth Colony in 1637. Richard died Taunton in Aug 1693. He married Whitcombe Magna, Gloucestershire 11 Feb 1631/2 Frances Deighton (daughter of John Deighton and Jane Bassett of Royal descent) and they had nine children (First three bp. St. Nicholas, Gloucester; rest born Taunton): John (1634 dy), Elizabeth (1635/6-1635/6), Samuel (1636/7), Nathaniel (1639), Joseph (c1643), Thomas (c1645), Elizabeth (c1647), Hannah (c1650) and Benjamin (1652).

Second Generation

Samuel Williams was bp. St. Nicholas Gloucester 2 Feb 1636/7 and died Taunton 16 Aug 1697. He married twice, first 1662, Mary Gilbert (6 children, but no Mayflower link) and second aft Oct 1691 (H)Anna ROGERS Williams (no children).

Nathaniel Williams was born Taunton 17 Nov 1639 and died there 16 Aug 1692. He married Taunton 17 Nov 1668 Elizabeth Rogers and they had three children (born Taunton): John (1675), Nathaniel (1679 m Lydia King) and Elizabeth (1686).

Third Generation

John Williams was born Taunton 27 Aug 1675 and died there 18 Aug 1724. He married Taunton bef. 1702 Hannah Robinson and they had six children: Nathaniel (1702), Experience (dau 1705), Silas (1706/7 m Mary Witherell), John (1708), Timothy (1714 m Elizabeth Britton) and Simeon (1717 m Ziporah Crane & Waitstill Hodges).

Nathaniel Williams was born Taunton Apr 1679 and died there 24 Aug 1726. He married Raynham 9 Jan 1709/10 Lydia King and they had six children: Edmund (1710 m Lydia Crane & Abiah Crane), Nathaniel (1711/2 m Mary Atherton), Lydia (1714), Bethia (1716), Judith (c1719) and Elizabeth (1721).

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Williams DNA Project Q-Group 121 list 3 individuals, one claiming to be a patrilineal descendant of Richard Williams (1607-1693).

WGS/NGS testing

Two of the three individuals in the Q-Group 121 have taken the Big Y-700 and been found to fall into the I-DF29>Z58>Z139>S2293>S6277>Y15902>Y15575>FT3433>S27836>A6549>A6591>A6776>A6780>A6778>FT8431 clade.
