DNA results
Previous Y-DNA testing
The Pope surname DNA Project Group "8. Descendants of Thomas Pope of Plymouth Colony" currently contains two testers, one claiming Thomas Pope as the Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA) and the second being a close Y-STR match. Based on their Y-STR tests, FTDNA predicts they fall under haplogroup: L-M20
NGS/WGS testing
One of the individuals has taken the Big Y-700 test and been found to fall into the following clade: L-FGC36819>FGC42567>Z34120>B374>BY96401>FTB85133>FTB82042>FTB79765 NGS/WGS testing of additional patrilineal (direct male line Y-DNA descendants) would confirm the haplogroup for the family and possibly define subclades for descendants. Anyone who believe they are Y-DNA descendants of Thomas Pope is encouraged to Y-DNA test and contact Raymond Wing email: MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com
