DNA results R1b-M269

The Copeland Surname Y-DNA Project Group 02 Has three individuals (STR matching) once claiming descent from Lawrence Copeland (d. 1699 Quincy, father of William). One of the individuals has only 12 YSTR tested, while the other two have only 25 YSTR tested. Family Tree DNA predicts the family to fall under R1b-M269.[1]

Further DNA testing needed

Further testing of descendants is needed. Any male who believes their patrilineal ancestry goes through Lawrence Copeland of Braintree (later Quincy) is encouraged to contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com

  1. WikiTree documents two male Coplelands, both claiming Lawrence Copeland (c1590-1651) as their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA) through his son "John Joseph {sic} Copeland" of Virginia. However, these individuals have conflicting Haplogroups (E-M35 and R-M198) and neither match the haplogroup prediction of the individual claiming Lawrence Copeland (II) of Braintree.
