Status summary

Completed as of October 10, 2020:

  • Recruiting direct male-line descendants of Henry Wood for further SNP testing - anyone interested in submitting their DNA for testing should contact Raymond T. Wing (email: wing.genealogist AT gmail DOT com)

Still to do as of September 29, 2020

  • NGS/WGS test actual descendants of Henry Wood to discover wheir subclade as well as possible descendants lines.

Biography

First Generation

Henry Wood was born in England about 1616 and died in Middleborough before 30 Sep 1670. He married Abigail Jenney and they had twelve children: Samuel, Jonathan, Sarah, David, John, Benjamin, Joseph, James, Abiel, Abigail, Susanna & Mary.

Second Generation

Samuel Wood was born Yarmouth 25 May 1647 and died Halifax 3 Feb 1718. He married Rebecca Morton and had at least three children: Henry, Ephraim & Samuel

DNA results R1b-U106

Previous Y-DNA testing

The Wood/Woods Y-DNA Project Group 13 currently has nine individuals, all close STR matches to each other, with four claiming Henry Wood as their ancestor. None have done any Y-SNP testing, but a couple have done Y-111 STR testing. FTDNA predicts the family falls under R1b-M269. Plugging in the modal values for the 111 STR markers into the NEVGEN Haplogroup Predictor tool fails to list any clade with any probability. STR marker DYS492=13 is a very strong indicator (>95%) of the family falling under R1b-U106.[1]

Further needed testing

We would need Y-DNA descendants of Henry Wood to take NGS/WGS tests to pin down the haplogroup, as well as possibly define subclades for various branches of the family.

  1. Technically DYS492=13 is a predictor for Z2265, a direct subclade of U106, which contains over 99% of U106. The other direct subclade of U106 (A2150) has the ancestral DYS492=12
