Edward Sturgis (II) was born Yarmouth 10 Apr 1642, son of Edward Sturgis[1] and Elizabeth Hinkley. He died at Yarmouth 8 Dec 1678. He married before 1665 to Temperance Gorham. They had six children (Yarmouth) before his early death: Joseph, Samuel, James, Edward, Thankful & Fear.

Second Generation (all born Yarmouth)

Joseph Sturgis was born about 1664 and died Yarmouth 16 Mar 1746/7. He married prob. Barnstable about 1693 Hope Taylor and they had at least five children:[2] Jasper (died young), Temperance, Thankful, Hannah & Fear. Thus it appears there are no Y-DNA descendants of Joseph.

Samuel Sturgis was born about 1665[3] and died 12 Jan 1736/7 in Yarmouth. He married there 17 Oct 1700 Mercy Howes. They had eight children: An infant daughter, Sarah (d.y.), John, Samuel, Thomas, Hannah, Prince and Marcy (d.y.)

James Sturgis was born about 1669 and died in Yarmouth 3 Jan 1717/8 in ye 49th year of his age (gravestone). He married abt 1690 Rebecca Thacher. They had eight children: Rebecca (d.y.), Hannah, Bethiah, Temperance (d.y.), Thankful, Elizabeth, James (unmarried) and ?Fear (d.y). Thus there are no Y-DNA descendants of James.

Edward Sturgis (III) was born in 1673 and died there 1 Jun 1738 in his 66th year. He married Yarmouth 25 Nov 1703 Mehitable Hallet and they had eleven children (born Yarmouth): infant son, Abigail, Temperance, Edward, Jonathan (d.y.). Jonathan (d.y.), Jerusha, Mehitable (d.y.), Benjamin (d.y.), Mary and Mehitable.

Third Generation (born Yarmouth)

John Sturgis was born 6 Nov 1704 and died Barnstable 10 Aug 1759. He married twice, first Barnstable 5 Sep 1728 Abigail Allen and second there 9 May 1734 Mehitable DAVIS Hersey Russell. John had eight children by his first wife (Barnstable): Samuel (1729/30 m Olive Allen & Abigail Carpenter), John (1731-1752 unm.), Rebekah (1735), Abigail (1737-1737), Ebenezer (1738/9-1740), Abigail (1740-1740), Hannah (1741/2) and Abigail (1752-1753). By his second wife he had two more children (Barnstable): Sarah (1755) and John (1758-1759). Thus there was only one son (Samuel) who survived to adulthood and married. He had three children, but his only son died young, so no living Y-DNA line.

Samuel Sturgis was born 28 Oct 1706 and died Boston 8 Jul 1767, He married Boston 17 Sep 1734 Lucretia Wendell and they had three children (Boston): Mercy 1735 (not in father's will), Abraham (1736-1736/7) and Lucretia (1737-1737/8). Thus it appears he had no surviving children.

Edward Sturgis was born 24 Jul 1710 and died there between his will 17 Apr 1762 and its probate 9 Feb 1773. Edward Sturgis (V) (the only male Sturgis of the fourth generation) was born Yarmouth 24 Jul 1710 and died there before 1773.[4] He married Yarmouth 4 Mar 1730/1 Thankful Hedge and they had six children (Yarmouth): Temperance (1731), Elizabeth (1734), James (1735, not in father's will so likely died young), Edward (1737), Abigail (1738/9) and Samuel (1742 not in father's will).
