Biography

While some old sources give a maiden name of Holland to Mary, wife of Wrestling Brewster (and later wife of John Partridge), no evidence can be found for any maiden name for Mary.

First Generation

According to her age on her death record in Kingston[1] Mary was born about 16 Nov 1661 and died 12 Nov 1742 aged 80 yrs., 11 mos. and 27 dys. She was married twice, first by 1678[2] Wrestling Brewster and second, Duxbury 23 May 1700 John Partridge (two children, but no Mayflower link). By her first husband, Mary had eight children (Duxbury): Mary (1678/9), Jonathan (c1682), Sarah (c1684), Abigail (c1686), Hannah (1688), Elizabeth (c1690), John (c1692) and Wrestling (1695).

Second Generation all born Duxburrow (now Duxbury)

Mary Brewster was born 10 Feb 1678/9 and died Kingston 17 Apr 1761. She married about 1697 Joseph Holmes and they had ten children: Joseph (1697), Wrestling (1698/9), Ephraim (1700), Mary (1701), Sarah (1703), Abigail (1705), Jonathan (1709), Micah (1714), Lydia (1717, d.y.) and Keziah (1719).

Sarah Brewster was born about 1681 and died before Oct 1732.[3] She married Duxbury 4 Mar 1705/6 Caleb Stetson[4] and they had eight children: Abisha (son, 1706/7), Elizabeth (1709), Barzillai (1711), Joshua (1714), Jerusha (1716), John (1718 prob. d.y.), Jedediah (1721) and a child (1722, likely d.y.)

Abigail Brewster was born about 20 Mar 1683 and died Kingston 6 May 1761 aged 78 yrs. 1 mo. 16 dys.[5] She married Duxbury 28 Oct 1707 Elisha Stetson and they had five children: Sarah (1708), Egloth (dau, 1710), Zerish (dau, 1712), Hopestill (dau, 1715) and Elisha (1719).

Hannah Brewster was born about Sep 1688 and died Duxbury 8 Jan 1763. She married Duxbury 1707 Benjamin Alden and they had eight children (Duxbury): Mary (1710/1), Sarah (1712, likely d.y.), Elizabeth (1714-1771 unm.), David (1716/7), Ichabod (1719), Bezaliel (1722), Wrestling (1724) and Abiather (1731).

Elizabeth Brewster was born Dec 1690 and died Kingston 5 Dec 1741. She married 13 Feb 1709/10 Ephraim Bradford and they had fourteen children: Deborah (1712-1732 unm.), Anna (1715), Elizabeth (1717), Ephraim (1718/9), Abigail (1719/20), Lusannah (1721), Elijah (1723), Ruth (1725), Ezekiel (1728), Simeon (1729), and Wait (son, c1730).

Third Generation

Mary Holmes was born Kingston 7 Jun 1701 and died Duxbury 13 Aug 1798. She married (int. Kingston 13 Jan 1726) Jacob Dingley and they had seven children:

Sarah Holmes was born Kingston 11 Apr 1703 and died there about 1761. She married Plymouth 12 May 1720 John Bearce and they had thirteen children:

Abigail Holmes was born Kingston about 18 Jun 1705 and died about 24 Oct 1787. She married Kingston 2 Jan 1730 Israel Turner and they had nine children:

Keziah Holmes was born Kingston 23 Mar 1719 and died 22 Jun 1787. She married Kingston 3 Oct 1745 Isaiah Thomas and they had six children:


Elizabeth Stetson was born Plymouth 14 Oct 1709 and died Norton 12 Mar 1766. She married aft 9 Jan 1731 Silas Cooke and they had six children:


Sarah Stetson was born Plymouth 26 Aug 1708 and died Kingston 23 Feb 1792. She married Kingston 4 Nov 1726 (Capt.) Robert Bradford and they had twelve children:

Egloth Stetson was born Plymouth 7 Oct 1710 and died there 18 Nov 1792. She married Kingston about 1732 Ephraim Washburn and they had eight children:

Zerish Stetson was born Plymouth 29 Nov 1712 and died Kingston 6 Apr 1763. She married Kingston aft 18 Dec 1731 Benjamin Bradford and they had eight children:

Hopestill Stetson was born Plymouth 21 May 1715 and died Kingston before 1752. She married Kingston 21 Oct 1736 John Simmons and they had four children:


Mary Alden was born Duxbury 1 Jan 1710/1 and died there 4 Apr 1789. He married Duxbury 31 Dec 1734 John Wadsworth and they had four children:


Anna Bradford was born Plymouth 25 Jul 1715 and died after 12 Jun 1757. She married Kingston 23 Feb 1737 Ebenezer Chandler and they had seven children:

Elizabeth Bradford was born Plymouth 3 Nov 1717 and died after 30 Sep 1772. She married Kingston 12 Jul 1753 Azariah Whiton/Whiting and they had four children:

Abigail Bradford was born Plymouth 28 Feb 1719/20 and died Yarmouth, Nova Scotia 13 Sep 1790. She married Kingston 7 Oct 1740 Peleg Holmes and they had eleven children:

Lusannah Bradford was born Plymouth 3 May 1721 and died Kingston 8 Dec 1805. She married Kingston 28 Apr 1752 Seth Everson and they had five children:

Ruth Bradford was born Kingston Jul 1725 and died Duxbury 26 Aug 1767. She married Kingston 3 Aug 1749 Nathan Chandler and they had eight children:

DNA results

Previous mtDNA testing

To date, no one who has identified themselves as being a matrilineal (all female line) descendant of Mary, wife of Wrestling Brewster has publicly revealed they have mtDNA testing. This testing may help identify some branches of the family.
