Biography

First Generation

Joseph Kent was born in England about 1637.[1] and died Rehoboth 5 Sep 1704. While his parents are currently unknown, he had brothers Joshua & John. Joseph married at Swansea before 1665 to Susanna ______ Austin, widow of George Austin. They had four children: Joseph, Samuel, Joshua & Susanna

Second Generation

Joseph Kent (II) was born at Swansea about 1665. He married twice, first Dorothy Brown and second Mary ____. He only had children by his first wife and they had nine[2] children: Lydia (1691), Joseph (1693), Dorothy (1695), John (1697), Hezekiah (1699/1700), Susanna (1701/2), Mary (1703/4) and James (1707).

(Ens.) Samuel Kent was born Swansea 23 Mar 1668 and died Barrington (now in RI) 15 May 1737. He married Desire Cushman and they had two children (born Swansea): Hannah (1702) and Josiah (1705).

Joshua Kent was born Taunton about 1672 and died Barrington, RI 14 Aug 1725. He married Mary Toogood and had six daughters: Sarah, Hannah, Susanna, Lydia, Mary & Bethiah.

Third Generation

Joseph Kent was born Swansea 1693

John Kent was born Swansea 1697

Hezekiah Kent was born Swansea 1699/1700

James Kent was born Swansea 1707


Josiah Kent was born Swansea 1705


  1. He deposed 19 Mar 1653 aged 16
  2. The Rehoboth VRs give the mother as Clarissa for children 4-9, but no other record gives this name. Needs further research. mtDNA of this family may be able to determine whether their was a third wife.
