For more information see: Westgate, Alice W.A., rev. by Ann T. Reeves, ''Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, vol. 19 Rogers''
The only record of [https://thomasrogerssociety.com/p1.htm#i13 Hannah] is the fact she was named in the will of her husband, dated 2 January 1677/8. As such, we cannot be certain whether Hannah was his only wife, and whether she was the mother to all/some/none of his children. mtDNA testing should be able to tell us whether all of the daughters had the same mother, but even then, we would not be certain whether Hannah was their mother. In any case, this profile is for the mother of the children (assuming they all had the same mother, whether or not it was Hannah).

The first child of Joseph Rogers was born Plymouth 16 Aug 1633. Joseph had eight children<ref>listed in the Plymouth Colony records between the “1651 Sandwidge Regester of beirths of children” and the “1652 Plymouth Regester of the beirths of theire children” under the heading “These bee the names of Leiftenant Josephth Rogers his children as followeth...”</ref>; four sons and four daughters (Sarah [died in infancy], Elizabeth, Mary & Hannah)

===Possible origins===
 +
Hannah, Anna, Ann, Anne, etc. was not a common given name in Plymouth Colony during the time period in which Hannah, wife of Joseph Rogers lived. The 1627 "Cattle Division" named every man, woman and child living in the colony. This list included only one Hannah (Hannah Annable, later wife of Thomas Boreman) and two Anna's (Anna Sprague later wife of William Lawrence) and Anna Warren (latter married Thomas Little). Thus, we are left with a total of four possible origins for Hannah.
 +

 +
1) Hannah came from Massachusetts Bay Colony (MBC) (or another Colony):  Unlikely as MBC was still in its founding stage when Hannah married Joseph Rogers (and immigration between the colonies was minimal).
 +

 +
2) Hannah emigrated to Plymouth Colony sometime after the 1627 Cattle Division, either with her family or as a servant to another family. (Immigration to Plymouth Colony during this period was limited to roughly one to two ships per year).
 +

 +
3) Hannah was not the first wife of Joseph
 +

 +
4) Hannah was a Native American. Noted Plymouth Colony researcher, Dale H. Cook reported<ref>[https://www.facebook.com/groups/834024983313234/permalink/4761732380542455 Facebook Group post]</ref> there is no documented case of '''any''' marriage between a Native American (of either sex) and a Plymouth Colonist before the time the Colony was absorbed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691.

PURE SPECULATION: Edmund Chandler named daughters Sarah, Anna and Mary (together) as well as a separate bequest to daughter Ruth, but failed to give surnames to any of them. Many believed these daughters were all unmarried, and by his second wife. A ''Mayflower Descendant'' Summer 2022 article documents hypothisized one of the two daughters, Sarah, was the wife of Moses Simmons. It is '''possible''' the daughter Anna was "Hannah" wife of Joseph Rogers. mtDNA testing of living matrilineal descendants of Sarah ___ Simmons and Hannah _____ Rogers may prove or disprove this speculation.

Background

For more information see: Westgate, Alice W.A., rev. by Ann T. Reeves, Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, vol. 19 Rogers

Possible origins

Hannah, Anna, Ann, Anne, etc. was not a common given name in Plymouth Colony during the time period in which Hannah, wife of Joseph Rogers lived. The 1627 "Cattle Division" named every man, woman and child living in the colony. This list included only one Hannah (Hannah Annable, later wife of Thomas Boreman) and two Anna's (Anna Sprague later wife of William Lawrence) and Anna Warren (latter married Thomas Little). Thus, we are left with a total of four possible origins for Hannah.

1) Hannah came from Massachusetts Bay Colony (MBC) (or another Colony): Unlikely as MBC was still in its founding stage when Hannah married Joseph Rogers (and immigration between the colonies was minimal).

2) Hannah emigrated to Plymouth Colony sometime after the 1627 Cattle Division, either with her family or as a servant to another family. (Immigration to Plymouth Colony during this period was limited to roughly one to two ships per year).

3) Hannah was not the first wife of Joseph

4) Hannah was a Native American. Noted Plymouth Colony researcher, Dale H. Cook reported[1] there is no documented case of any marriage between a Native American (of either sex) and a Plymouth Colonist before the time the Colony was absorbed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691.

PURE SPECULATION: Edmund Chandler named daughters Sarah, Anna and Mary (together) as well as a separate bequest to daughter Ruth, but failed to give surnames to any of them. Many believed these daughters were all unmarried, and by his second wife. A Mayflower Descendant Summer 2022 article documents hypothisized one of the two daughters, Sarah, was the wife of Moses Simmons. It is possible the daughter Anna was "Hannah" wife of Joseph Rogers. mtDNA testing of living matrilineal descendants of Sarah ___ Simmons and Hannah _____ Rogers may prove or disprove this speculation.

First Generation

The only record of [1] Hannah is the fact she was named in the will of her husband, dated 2 January 1677/8.

The first child of Joseph Rogers was born Plymouth (poss. now Duxbury) 6 Aug 1633. Joseph had eight children[2]: Sarah (1633-1633), Joseph (1635), Thomas (1638), Elizabeth (1639), John (1642), Mary (1644) and Hannah (1648).

[3] Mary Rogers was probably born at Duxbury on 22 Sep 1644. She was living at Barnstable as late as 19 Apr 1718. She married (recorded at Barnstable)[3] 10 Aug 1664 John Finney/Phinney. They had twelve children: John, Melathia (died young), Joseph, Thomas, Ebenezer, Samuel, Mary, Mercy, Reliance, Benjamin, Jonathan and Hannah (1687-1689).

[4] Hannah Rogers was probably born at Eastham 8 Aug 1652. She was living as late as 18 Oct 1690. She married at Eastham about 1679 Jonathan Higgins (who was the widow of her sister, Elizabeth). They had five children: Elizabeth (1680/1), Mary (1682/3), Rebecca (1686) James and Sarah (1690)
