Biography

First Generation

Thomas Bonney, possibly son of Thomas Bonney and Joyce Hudson (married Wollaton, Notts. 7 Nov 1585), was born likely in or near Sandwich, Kent, England about 1604 and died Duxbury 1 May 1693. He was a parishiner of St. Peter's Church, Sandwich, Kent when he emigrated to Plymouth Colony aboard the Hercules in 1634. According to his grandson (Jabez, son of John) Thomas Bonney was first married to Mary Terry (no children) and then about 1654 Mary Hunt. Even though he was said to be aged about 50 at the time of his second marriage, he had nine children by this second marriage: Mary (1656), Joseph (1660), Sarah (c1660), Hannah (c1663), John (1664), Thomas (c1665), William (1669), James (c1672) and Joseph (c1677).

Second Generation

Joseph Bonney was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) about 1660 and died Pembroke bef 8 Apr 1720. He married Plymouth 14 Nov 1707 Margaret Phillips and they had: Mary, Ezekiel, Nathaniel and Margaret (none known to have married Mayflower Descendants).

John Bonney was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 25 Feb 1663/4 and died Pembroke 16 Nov 1745. He married twice, first Sarah Malbone (no known ch.) and then Pembroke abt 1689 Elizabeth Bishop. By his second wife he had nine children: John (1690), Mary (1692), Elizabeth (1694), Joseph (c1696), Ichabod (1698), infant (c1699), Ruth (1699/1700), an infant (c1702), Deborah (1704), Anna (1706), Perez (1708/9) and Mary (1710).

Thomas Bonney was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 1665 and died there bef. 19 Aug 1735. He married twice, first Duxbury 24 Dec 1684 Dorcas Samson and second Duxbury 18 Jul 1695 Sarah Studley (no ch.) By his first wife he had three children: Ebenezer (c1689-1712 unm.), Elizabeth (c1692) and Mercy (c1694).

William Bonney was born Duxburrow (now Duxbury) 4 Jan 1668/9 and died Plymouth 1746. He married twice, first bef 1693 Ann May and second Plymouth (now Plympton) 11 Jul 1700 Mehitable King. By his first wife he had three children: William (1693 m Patience ___ but no ch.), Thomas (c1695-1757 unk. if marr.), Ann (c1697) and Martha (1699). By his second wife he had: Isaac (1702), Mary (1704), Sarah (1708), Ebenezer (1710 unm.) and Mehitable (none known to have married Mayflower Descendants).

James Bonney was born Duxbury about 1672 and died Pembroke 24 Jan 1724. He married twice, first Duxbury 14 Jun 1695 Abigail Bishop and second bef 20 Jun 1718 Desire Billington[1] (no ch.) By his first marriage James had ten children including: James (1696 unm.), Elisha (c1698), Sarah (c1700), Abigail (1702), David (1704-1729 unm.), Ebenezer (1706), Elijah, Job and Abiah (dau.) (none known to have married Mayflower Descendants).

Joseph Bonney was born about 1677 and died Pembroke aft 1717. He married Plymouth 14 Nov 1707 Margaret Phillips and they had: Mary (1708), Ezekiel (1711), Nathaniel (1714) and Margaret (1716).

Third Generation

John Bonney (II) was born Pembroke 27 Jun 1690 and died 1750. He married 1713 Elizabeth Hatch and they had: Elizabeth, Zerviah, John, Rachel and Thomas and others who died young.

Perez Bonney was born Pembroke 10 Mar 1709 and died Cornwall, CT Jul 1766. He married Pembroke 20 Apr 1739 Ruth Snow (descendant of Peter Brown and John Alden) and they had eight children: Joel William (1740), Perez (1742), Titus (1744), Giles (1744), Celia (1746), Jairus Abijah (1747/8), James (c1749) and Asa (1751).


Ezekiel Bonney was born Pembroke 14 Nov 1711 and died there 8 Aug 1772. He married Pembroke 26 Dec 1734 Hannah Bryant (descendant of Miles Standish) and they had (Pembroke): Joseph (1736), Lemuel (1737/8), Ezekiel (1740), Samuel (1742), Hannah (c1744), Margaret (1746), Noah (1748), William (1751), Jonathan (1753), Silvesta (dau, 1755) and Oliver (1758).

  1. After James' death, Desire married Middleborough 5 Mar 1730 Thomas Pratt.

Previous Y-DNA testing

As of Dec. 2022, Family Tree DNA does not have a Bonney surname DNA project, but has 36 kits associated with the Bonney surname.

Known patrilineal descendants of Thomas Bonney are needed to Big Y test, contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com and disclose their lineage in order to refine this clade assignment.
