Previous Y-DNA testing

The Adams Y-DNA Study was started in 2002. This was a STR-based study, and only compared 37 Y-STRs. This was not enough resolution to go beyond the R-M269 predicted haplogroup FTDNA has assigned to this family.

NGS/WGS testing

FTDNA's Adams Surname Y-DNA Project (first family group) documents two patrilineal (direct male line) descendants of Henry Adams (grandfather of Dea. Joseph Adams) have taken a Big Y test and have been confirmed to fall under: R-L23>L51>P310>L151>S1194>CTS4528>S14328>A8469>S1196>S6868>FGC23894>FGC23887>Z4471

Further needed testing

We need direct male-line descendants of (Dea.) Joseph Adams (II) to WGS/NGS test to discover any subclades which they may fall under.
