First Generation

[1] (Capt.) Hancock Lee, son of (Col.) Richard Lee and Anne Constable was born Dividing Creek, VA Mar 1652/3 and died Wicomico, VA 25 May 1709. He married twice, first abt 1675 Mary Kendall (not descended from a Mayflower passenger) and second Westmoreland Co., VT abt 1700 Sarah Allerton. By his second wife he had five children: Isaac (1702-b1727 unm.), Ann (c1704), John (c1707 unm.), Elizabeth (1709) and Hancock (1709).

Second Generation

[2] Hancock Lee (II) was born Ditchley, VA aft 18 May 1709[1] and died King George Co., VA Oct 1762. He married Fredericksburg, VA 23 Jan 1733/4 Mary Willis and they had seven children:[2] Willis (d. 1776 likely never marr.), Hancock, John, Sarah Alexander, Henry, Richard (d. unm.) and Mary.

Third Generation

(Capt.) Hancock Lee (III) was born abt 1736 and died 1815. He married Winifred Beale and they had Willis, Hancock, Thomas, Emeline and Elizabeth.

George Henry Lee was born Fauquier Co., VA 2 Jul 1737 and died Gates Co., NC 17 Nov 1806. He married twice, first to Mary Ludwell then Gates Co., NC 9 Nov 1779 Mary Elizabeth Pipkin (no children). By his first wife George had: Mary Ann (1779), William (1781), Margaret (c1783), Richard H. (c1783), Sarah Frances (1783), Mary (1784), William Henry (1786 m Lavenia Harrell), Charity Cherry (1790) and Elizabeth (1794).

[3] (Maj.) John Lee was born 20 Sep 1743 and died before 1 Feb 1802. He married twice, first to Letitia Atwell (no children), then (bond dated 18 Dec 1781) Elizabeth Bell and they had: John Hancock (m Anne Lee, no ch.), Lewis (m. no ch.), Sarah, Matilda A., Elizabeth, Lucinda and Anne. Thus there are no surviving patrilineal (Y-DNA) descendants from John.

Henry Lee was born prob. Fauquier Co., VA 28 Oct 1750 and died Woodford Co., KY between 4 May 1802 - 3 Dec 1804.[3]married[4] Frances _____ (named in husband's will) and they had five children: Willis (unm.), Hancock (unm.), John (unm.), Sarah (dau) and Anne/Nancy (m. John Hancock Lee, no ch.) and Elizabeth/Betsy. Thus there are no surviving patrilineal (Y-DNA) descendants from Henry.

  1. His father made a codicil to his will adding in a bequest to his unborn child.
  2. Some records include additional children (likely fictional): Ann (1734), Mary (1735), George Henry (1737), John Arthur and Richard Bland
  3. Date of will - date will probated.
  4. Some sources give him another wife, Mary Willis. Not found in Silver Books.

DNA results I-BY70495

The Lee surname project subgroup 21: Lees of VA (Richard Lee m. Ann Constable) currently has five individuals, one claiming Hancock Lee was their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA) and the other claiming Richard Lee (father of Hancock) as the MDKPA. FTDNA predicts the family to fall under the I-M253 clade.

One of these two individuals has taken a Big Y test and been found to fall under: I-DF29>Y2592>CTS6364>CTS10028>S6346>L22>Z2338>S25366>P109>S10891>FGC21732>FT2561>FGC21733>FGC21765>BY70495


Further DNA testing needed

Further testing of patrilineal descendants is needed. Any male who believes their patrilineal ancestry goes through Richard Lee (especially through his son Hancock Lee) is encouraged to contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com
