Biography
First Generation
William Reed was born Weymouth, MBC on 15 Dec 1639, son of William Reed and Avis Chapman.[1] This son died at Weymouth before 12 Sep 1706. He married about 1675 Esther Tomson. They had seven children (Weymouth): Bashua/Bathsheba (c1676), Mercy (c1678), John (1680 dy), William (1682), Mary (1684), Hester (c1685), John (1687), Jacob (1691) and Sarah (1694).
Second Generation
William Reed (III) was born Weymouth 24 May 1682 and died Abington 3 Jun 1753. He married abt 1703 Alice Nash and they had ten children (Abington): Alice (1703-1703), William (1704-1724 unm), Obadiah (1706/7), Ebenezer (1709), Alice (1711-1724), Daniel (1713), James (1716), Solomon (1719), Moses (1722/3) and Alice (1725).
John Reed was born Weymouth 10 Jul 1687 and died Abington bef 16 May 1739 He married twice, first abt 1712 Sarah ?Hersey and second Rehoboth 1 Dec 1715 Mary Wheeler. By his first wife he had one child (Abington): John (1713). By his secon wife he had ten children (Abington): James (1716), Jacob (twin 1717/8 dy), Joseph (twin 1717/8), Mary (1719), Ezekiel (1722), Peter (1724), Squire (1725), Silence (1728-1728), Benjamin (1730 dy) and Samuel (1732-1753 unm).
Jacob Reed was born Weymouth 6 Nov 1691 and died prob. Abington aft 28 Oct 1765. He married twice, first abt 1717 Sarah ?Hersey and second Abington 21 Dec 1732 Hannah Noyes. By his first wife he had six children (Abington): Sarah (1718), Jacob (1720), Hannah (1722/3), William (1725), Elijah (1727/8) and Betty (1731 dy). By his second wife he had one additional child (Abington): Betty (1734).
Third Generation
Obadiah Reed was born Abington 14 Mar 1706/7 and died there 27 May 1753. He married Abington 19 Oct 1731 Mary Nash and they had twelve children (Abington): William (1731/2-1732). Mary (1734), Sarah (1736), Obadiah (1738 m Content Lincoln & Elizabeth Shaw), Silence (1741), Alice (1744-1745), Alice (1745-1745), Alice (1746 dy), Paul (twin 1748-1748), Silas (twin 1748-1748), Matthew (1750 unk if marr) and Silas (1751 m Experience REED Josselyn).
(Capt.) Daniel Reed was born Abington 6 Dec 1713 and died Cummington 5 Apr 1781. He married twice, first (int Weymouth 16 Sep 1739) Ruth White and second Abington 20 Jun 1776 Sarah Hamlin (no ch.) By his first wife Daniel had seven children (Abington): Rachel (1740), Micah (1742/3 m Deborah Thompson), Jesse (1745/6 m Mrs. Ruth Whitman), Enoch (1747 unm), Seth (1750 m Thankful Whitmarsh & Mary Lazell), Ruth (1752) and Noah (1754 m Abigail Rice).
James Reed was born Abington 3 Mar 1716 and died there 24 Jul 1762 aged 46 yrs. He married Abington 10 May 1739 Abigail Nash and they had nine children (Abington): Tabitha (1740), Experience (1741), Solomon (1743 unk if marr), Adam (1745 unk if marr), Stephen (1748 m Sarah Richards), Huldah (1751), Abel (1754 unk if marr), Molly (1756) and James (1758 unk if marr).
Solomon Reed was born Abington 22 Oct 1719 and died Middleborough 7 May 1785. He married twice, first bef 2 May 1747 Abigail Stoughton and second Abington 12 Jul 1764 (no ch.) By his first wife Solomon had five children (prob. Framingham): Sarah (c1750), John (1751), Solomon (1753), Samuel (c1754) and Timothy (c1756).
Moses Reed was born Abington 15 Jan 1711/2 and died there 3 Sep 1757. He married Abington 10 May 1750 Phebe Tirrill and they had three children (born Abington): Moses (1751), Aaron (1754) and Miriam (1757).
John Reed (II) was born Abington 10 Aug 1713 and died Weymouth in 1780. He married Weymouth 20 Jun 1734 Mary Torrey and they had five children (Weymouth): Mary (1735), Hannah (1738), Samuel (1740), Sarah (1744) and John (1747/8-1751).
James Reed was born Abington 12 Oct 1716 and died there bef Nov 1753. He married Abington 30 Aug 1741 Ruth FORD Pool and they had six children (Abington): Joseph (1742 dy), Hezekiah (1744/5 m Deborah Tirrell), Jeremiah (1746), Olive (1748/9), Joseph (c1750) and Naomi (ca 1750).
Ezekiel Reed was born Abington 14 Nov 1722 and died in 1763. He married Abington 25 Nov 1742 Hannah Beal and they had nine children (Abington): Ezekiel (1744), Hannah (1746), Squire (1748), Mary (1751 dy), Zebulon (1752), Mary (1754), Samuel (1756), Issachar (1759) and Deborah (1762)
Peter Reed was born Abington 29 Mar 1724 and died abt Feb 1780. He married Abington 25 Mar 1748 Lucy Hugens and they had five children (Abington): Eunice (bp 1749), Benjamin (1752), Sarah (1757), Samuel (1760) and Joanna (1763).
Jacob Reed (II) was born Abington 7 Jul 1720 and died Easton 11 Oct 1806. He married twice, first Abington 26 Nov 1741 Mary Ford and second Abington 1 Dec 1718 Alice Reed. By his first wife he had two children (Abington): Marcy (1742) and Abijah (1744). By his second wife he had eight more children (Abington): Alice (1752?), Mary (c1755), Jacob (1757), Lydia (1759), Phebe (bp 1762), Nathan (bp 1764), Bela (1769) and Besa (dy).
William Reed was born Abington 20 Sep 1725 and died there 4 Dec 1807. He married Abington 13 Sep 1759 Silence Nash and they had eight children (Abington): Silence (1753), William (1755), Jane (1757), Betsey (1760), Susannah (1762), James (1764), Timothy (1767) and Mehitable (1770).
Elijah Reed was born Abington 14 Feb 1727/8 and died Middleborough aft Apr 1788. He married Abington 10 Jul 1755 Sarah Reed and they had six children (Abington): Hannah (1756), Elijah (1758), Luke (1763), Paul (1765), Joshua (1768) and Jacob (1771).
- ↑ William and Avis were married at Long Sutton, Somersetshire in Oct 1635 and they had a child baptized there in Jan 1635/6. The family apparently emigrated to New England before their son William was born at Weymouth in Dec 1639.

Previous Y-DNA testing
The Reed DNA Surname Project subgroup: "Matched Group 51" has nine matching individuals, two of whom list William Reed as their Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA).
NGS testing
One member of this Project has apparently taken a Big Y test and been found to fall under U106>>Z381>Z301>S1688>U198>S15627>DF89>FGC12305>PH1254>FGC12307>FGC48449>JFS0004>FGC48444>BY120885
Further needed testing
We would need more Y-DNA descendants of William Reed to take NGS/WGS tests to pin down the haplogroup, as well as possibly define subclades for various branches of the family.
