Biography
First Generation
Joshua Pratt is said to be the son of a dissident Priest, Henry Pratt, and brother to another Plymouth Colony planter, Phineas Pratt. Y-DNA testing (see below) supports the claim the two immigrants were closely related, but the current level of refinement cannot tell whether they were brothers or otherwise patrilineally related (such as uncle/nephew or cousins to some degree). The family is believed to be from Buckinghamshire, but the exact place and date of Joshua's birth is currently Unknown (estimated birth of c 1605). He died Plymouth bef 5 Oct 1656. He married Plymouth Colony abt 1630 Bathsheba ____[1] and they had five children (Plymouth): Benajah (c1630), Hannah (c1632), Jonathan (c1637), Bathsheba (c1639) and Deborah (c1642).
Second Generation
Benajah Pratt was born Plymouth abt 1630 and died there 17 Mar 1682. He married Plymouth 39 Nov 1655 Persis Dunham and they had at least ten children: Abigail (1657), Benajah, Eleazer, Joshua, John, Joseph, Daniel, Mehitable (c1667), Persis (c1670) and Hannah (c1672).
Jonathan Pratt was born Plymouth abt 1637 and died Taunton abt 1729. He married twice, first Plymouth 2 Nov 1664 Abigail Atwood then Taunton 3 Mar 1689/90 Elizabeth White (widow of ____ Hall) (no ch.) By his first wife he had: Abigail (1664), Bathsheba (1667), Jonathan (1669), Hannah (1671), Jabez (1673), Melatiah (dau 1676), Bethia (1679) and Maria (bp 1684/5).

DNA results
Previous Y-DNA testing
The Pratt surname DNA Project Group: "Haplogroup R1b - Lineage 3A (R-U152>L2>DF103>FGC4166>BY123080>FT31290)" has a number of early Pratt immigrants who all appear to be close Y-STR matches. Two individuals in this grouping call Joshua Pratt their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA). Based on their Y-STR testing, FTDNA predicts everyone in this grouping to fall under R1b-M269.
NGS/WGS testing
One individual claiming Joshua Pratt as their MDKPA has taken the Big Y-700 test and been found to fall under the following haplogroup: R-P312>Z46516>ZZ11>U152>L2>DF103>FGC4166>BY123080>FT31290>FT29156>FT138886>FT137491>FT139080>FT138702.
DNA matches to other Pratt immigrants
The above grouping also one individual claiming their MDKPA as Phineas Pratt (who also emigrated to Plymouth Colony). Both the descendant from Joshua Pratt and the descendant from Phineas Pratt share the R-FT139080 clade with the descendant of Phineas falling under FT139080>FT387503. This supports the conclusion that Joshua and Phineas were closely related, but even the Big Y-700 test results are not refined enough to determine the exact relationship. It is entirely possible Joshua and Phineas may be brothers, but it is also possible they may be more distantly related.
Another early Pratt immigrants was also in this Project's grouping, indicating a patrilineal relationship of some type. Patrilineal descendants of Macuth/Matthew Pratt of Weymouth are a close Y-STR match to patrilineal descendants of Phineas and Joshua, but no known patrilineal descendants of Macuth/Matthew are known to have taken a Big Y-700 test so it is impossible to say even roughly how closely the families are related.
