Biography
First Generation
Alice Cosford was baptized at Watford, Northamptonshire 10 May 1573 and likely died in Leiden. She married Watford 24 Nov 1597 Thomas Rogers. and they had at least five children: Thomas (1598/9), (poss.) Richard (1599-1600), Joseph (1602/3), John (1606), Elizabeth (1609) and Margaret (1613).
Second Generation
Elizabeth Rogers was baptized at Watford 26 Nov 1609. Gov. Bradford reported where the rest of the children of Thomas Rogers came over to Plymouth Colony (likely sometime after the death of their mother) and married and had families of their own. While Thomas' son, John Rogers is known to marry Ann Crossman, it is unknown who the daughters Elizabeth and Margaret married. An article in the Summer 2021 The Mayflower Quarterly Magazine makes a noteworthy claim where Elizabeth may have married Samuel Eddy of Plymouth Colony. On 3 Jun 1662 Samuel was on a list of individuals who received land for being "first born children" (PCR 4:18-19). The term "first born children" typically refers to the children of Mayflower passengers, whether they were born in England (or Leiden) or in Plymouth Colony). Thomas Rogers is the only Mayflower passenger who is known to have a daughter named Elizabeth who is otherwise unplaced. Samuel and Elizabeth had five children: John (1637), Zachariah (1639), Caleb (1643), Obadiah (1645) and Hannah (1647).
Margaret Rogers was baptized at Waterford 30 May 1613. There are no records in Plymouth Colony which can immediately tie her in to a marriage The Mayflower Quarterly article above documents where Samuel Eddy was called a brother-in-law of Thomas Savory in the Plymouth Colony Land Records (4:311). While Thomas Savory had a wife named Anne, the article provides some evidence where Thomas may have had a first wife and at least one child (Aaron) was from this first wife, who could have been Margaret, daughter of Thomas Rogers.
Third Generation
It appears the only mtDNA descendant in the third generation would be Hannah Eddy. She was born in Plymouth 23 Jun 1647. Her further history is unknown and some assume she died young.
mtDNA Results
To date, no known matrilineal (all female line) descendant has publicly revealed where they have mtDNA tested. Anyone who believes they are a matrilineal descendant (in other words, anyone who believes their mother's mother's mother's etc. mother was Hannah) is encourage to take a full mtDNA test and to contact MayflowerDNA1620@gmail.com
