Completed as of October 1, 2020:
- Recruiting additional direct male-line John Peterson descendants for further SNP testing - anyone interested in submitting their DNA for testing should contact Raymond T. Wing (email: wing.genealogist AT gmail DOT com)
- Y-SNP predicted to fall under I-M253
Still to do as of October 1, 2020
- NGS/WGS test multiple descendants of John Peterson to firmly place family clade as well as test descendants to discover any subclades unique to descendants lines
Biography
First Generation
John Peterson was born about 1636, poss. son of Cornelius Peterson & Elizabeth Bray. John died Duxbury aft 29 Apr 1718. He married Duxbury abt 1664 Mary Soule and they had nine children (born Duxbury): John (c1665 unm), Joseph (c1667), Benjamin (1669), Martha (c1672), Jonathan (c1674 unm), David (1676), Isaac (1678), Mary (c1680) and Rebecca (c1682).

Previous Y-DNA testing
The Peterson Y-Chromosome DNA Surname Project Subgroup: "Group 03" lists two individuals, both state Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA) was John Peterson. Neither of these individuals have done any Y-DNA SNP testing. Plugging in their Y 67 STR values into the Nevgen.org Haplogroup Predictor[1] predicts a variety of haplogroups mostly under I-M253>DF29>Z58 (but with a 35% chance of the haplogroup falling outside of what the predictor can test).
- ↑ set for I haplogroup
Further needed testing
We need additional direct male-line descendants of John Peterson to WGS/NGS test to both confirm this prediction as well as to refine the haplogroup further and delineate descendant clades.
