Previous Y-DNA testing

The Brown-Browne-Braun DNA Study Project (Group No. 048) had two individuals who claims his Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor (MDKPA) was John Brown 1579-1662.[1] None of the individuals have done any Y-SNP testing and FTDNA simply predicts they fall under R1b-M269. One individual in this group has SNP tested R-P312>>U152>L2. Another individual claiming John Brown as his MDKPA and Y111 STRs has not SNP tested. The NevGen Haplogroup Predictor Tool states this individual is most likely R1b U152>L2>Z49>Z142>Z51 with a 58.76% probability (all other predictions are less than 3% with a 34.3% prediction of falling into an "unsupported subclade".

  1. this group has other close STR matches who list various MDKPAs, but all are somehow closely related to each other.

NGS/WGS testing

NGS testing of Y-DNA descendants of John Brown (and ideally descendants of his son, James) would refine the placement of this family.
